Halo 5 co-op requires Xbox Live Gold

4.5
Halo 5 will require you and your BFF to cough up for Xbox Live Gold if you want to play co-op together.

Halo 5: Guardians got a big info blowout this month, and one of the more interesting bits of intel was word that you’d be able to play the co-op campaign without an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

This seemed like very good news as 343 Industries has ditched local co-op via splitscreen, meaning you have to go online to play with your buddy. Unfortunately, it’s not true.

Writing on Halo Waypoint executive producer Josh Holmes said he “misspoke when stating that online co-op campaign would be supported with an Xbox Live Silver account”.

“Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play,” he confirmed.

After apologising, Holmes offered a partial solution:

“It is important to us that fans have the opportunity to play the full co-op campaign experience and we are doing this by providing a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial with Halo 5: Guardians,” he said.

That’s something, anyway. Halo 5: Guardians releases this November. Expect to see it at Microsoft’s E3 2015 conference at 9.30am PDT on June 16.

LikeCrazy Split screen co-op is garbage anyway, I don't see why people would be mad at it not being there. It takes away from the story and gameplay when you can't see half of what your doing.

It's funner playing the story with a friend whos with you though..

Agreed. Similar to borderlands, It's very fun to play with friends who don't even play video games. Not everyone in the world is a gamer so it is nice to be able to offer others the chance to pick up a controller and play with their buddy.

I find it to be much more enjoyable playing a game with my friend that is with me than just playing online and speaking via something like Skype.

Unless your screen is like 22", I don't see the big problem with splitscreen gameplay.

Splitscreen is horrible on every game not matter how big or small your Tv is.

Agreed cause you never know if they are "screen cheating" or not. (i have a brother and its a **** pain.)

Nullrouted Just to fill up Microsoft's money hungry wallet. That's BS you need to pay them a membership to play an offline co-op singleplayer.

There is not offline co op. You are paying to play with friends online. Which is what xbox live is. Read the article before looking like an idiot.

Wow kinda sad, Ive beaten every halo on coop split screen lol. 1-reach, oh well. I dont really have silver anymore, I havent for a while. Its a little upsetting that they are trying to milk money but really everyone should have xbox live at this point.

they need to make money that's what Business is They have to make profit

You realize the networth of microsoft is about $248 billion dollars, right? You already pay for your ISP (unless you live with your parents and they pay for it, assuming you do) there's no need to pay to go online when you're already paying for internet.

PC = Free
PSN = Free
Xbox = $$$ - Money hungry

Preety sure you need Playstation Plus to play online, so therefore PSN is not free.

Some people honest don't think before the comment haha
