GTA 5 Online PC: confusion as Rockstar begins banning mods

4.6
Players of GTA Online on PC are reporting getting banned for using a number of different mods.

The GTA 5 PC sub-Reddit is filled with posts about users getting banned, with confusion over whether cosmetic mods are just as bannable as those that give the player an unfair advantage.

One user posted an image saying he was banned from GTA Online for using an FOV mod. The thread is filled with conflicting reports from users who continue to play using mods.

Another thread shows a screengrab of a reply from Rockstar support sent in response to a player asking if FOV mods will result in a ban.

Here’s what he had to say:

Cosmetic mods here could simply refer to visual changes like colour or environment effects. An FOV mod, while cosmetic in nature, is probably achieved by injecting the game’s memory the same way a trainer would. Using a trainer – in any online game – is obviously not allowed. And this is where the water gets even muddier.

A large part of this confusion is due to Rockstar’s reluctance to reveal a list of bannable offences to the community, which is somewhat understandable given the nature of PC mods and the different means they utilise to achieve their results.

I dont know if this is a good or bad thing to be honest. I mean its fair that Rockstar are banning people for using mods but it shouldnt be for small things like a FOV mod lol.

At least you can use them for a while then just make a new account. if you mod on xbox you have to buy a new console every time your banned lol.

No?

MS has a 3 strike policy, you don't get console banned for modding for the first time. Also, I'm fairly certain when you get banned from R* game servers, it's your CD key that gets banned and not your account, but I could be wrong. Even if it was your account that got banned, whats the point in risking it? You'd lose all the progress you made and would have to start fresh, doesn't seem worth it to me.

RoyaI What's the point of having GTA for PC, if Rockstar are going to ban all the mods?

To name just a few benefits of playing on PC: Superior draw distance, higher resolution textures, 60fps, Rockstar Editor

Play it like consoles play it! PC Users shouldn't be any different.

Zeitgeist PC gamers acting like they are entitled to mod games just because they own a PC. Just because you own a PC doesnt make you a games developer

I agree to be fair.

Because GTA doesnt have mods... If you add them you are exploiting the game and last i checked Rockstar havnt encouraged anyone to mod.

Just play the game as intended!

The game should be played the same way as we play it

Mods are one of the factors that makes PC gaming so great. It gets boring playing the same thing over and over again, so mods give players more opportunities to enjoy the game. Valve supports mods, they even made an entire sector on steam dedicated to user developed mods (the workshop) which supports people to create fun, silly, crazy, or whatever mods they want. However, mods (or hacks) that give an unfair advantage over players on the internet would be a dick move, and is mostly not supported by people playing the game or the game developers.

That just isn't true. Besides you would have to buy gta again. PC still better.
