Steam’s user base has only gone up and up in recent years thanks to the service’s vast number of titles and infamous sales filled with good deals, and following a record-breaking summer for users in Summer 2014, the New Year has also brought a brand new record for the online gaming service.

On January 1st, Steam’s online service hit a new record of 8, 466, 441 concurrent users around 11:30am PT/2:30pm ET, setting a new milestone for Steam since hitting 8 million users during last year’s Summer Sale, with the record this time hitting at the tail end of the nearly-ending Holiday Sale.

With titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and more leading the list of the service’s most-played titles, it’s only a matter of time until the next record is broken leading into 2015.
