Report: Call of Duty sales decline likely to continue

4.7
Analysts at Cowen And Company have examined Amazon's pre-order tallies for the upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and have concluded that the game will probably continue the series' trend of declining returns.

"Advanced Warfare is now pacing almost 40 percent behind last year's Ghosts and almost 70 percent behind 2012's Black Ops 2," the analysts note. "We continue to believe CoD will be down meaningfully vs. last year. With the franchise facing two consecutive significant year on year declines in sales, we think it is prudent to assume it has peaked."

Cowen And Company preemptively argues against the idea that pre-orders are no longer a determinant of total sales by pointing out that 2014 has seen the record for most-preordered game broken twice, first by Watch Dogs then by Destiny. Clearly people are pre-ordering games, the analysts believe, but it appears that the Call of Duty series - which normally accounts for "a significant percentage of overall preorders" - is no longer attracting pre-order cash at the same rate it did even as recently as three years ago.

Miss I'm not surprised at all. CoD has been getting worse and worse every year. It would be the opposite if they went back to their roots.

That is because it is a bunch of futuristic trash.

I know and they think that's what everyone like since everyone just goes out and buys it immediately. They see huge sales and make the next CoD relatively the same.

ctrlaltxmakoqsx Plus the game isnt even out yet u cant say its the worst cod just from some leaked vids. they are never gonna make any other cod even if they did they will be worse then the first makes.

The point of this article is that the game has been getting progressively worse. If you look at the sales of the last few titles that is 100% fact. They are only predicting that the decline of the title is going to continue which will probably also become fact. Unless they make drastic improvements on the engine and various others things then I really don't see the title lasting much longer maybe 3-5 at most. Activision will literally drag this on until they've milked every single dollar they can out of the series so in all honesty it doesn't matter which of the 3 developers is making the game this year, next year, or the year after that.

I really use to enjoy the series but, it's nothing close to what it was and that's what I think a lot of people are missing. I had a lot of hope that they would get it back on track until ghosts but, we really can only wait and see what happen with AW. As of right now I'm fearful that the downfall will only continue though.

-African They would get a lot more sales if they would actually listen to the fans instead of assuming we want the same thing 3 years straight.

Exactly! Just another CoD that I probably won't buy this year. Obviously I can't rule it out completely from what they've shown so far so I will rent it but, that'll probably be it. Unless they have some crazy stuff they haven't shown yet which I strongly doubt they do.

Its because the pre-order means nothing. Why pre-order you don't get value for your money and the game drops in price at other outlets on launch day.

Which means yes you have to rely on a price compete clause or them actually giving you the difference back.

Now if the pre-order allowed you to play a week or 2 weeks ahead of time I could see the benefit. Otherwise they need to up the anty to get people back on board and using pre-orders.
