World of Warcraft subscribers rise ahead of expansion release

4.5
Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft subscribers totalled over 7.4 million as of September 30, up from 6.8 million at the end of June.

Subscriber growth for the nearly decade-old MMORPG can likely be attributed to interest in the game's fifth expansion pack, November's Warlords of Draenor, and this week's release of The Iron Tide patch, which introduces many of the upcoming game-altering feature updates.

Iron Tide key features

Iron Horde Incursion World Event: players looking to upset the Iron Horde invasion can journey to the Blasted Lands to face down the onslaught and venture into the revamped five-player version of the Upper Blackrock Spire dungeon
New Character Models: several of the game's original races are new and improved, with increased resolution as well as updated animations and facial expressions
Interface Improvements: questing is now easier than ever with an updated quest log and inventory changes, including a Toy Box for the fun items players acquire through their adventures
Character and Class Changes: myriad character- and class-specific updates are now live, making this a great time for players to refamiliarize themselves with their characters ahead of the expansion's launch

Set for release on November 13, Warlords of Draenor will explore the franchise's history across the new continent of Draenor, formerly presented as the shattered Outland. It will also increase World of Warcraft's level cap to 100 and offer players the option to immediately boost one new or existing character to level 90.

The pack will introduce new zones, dungeons, and PvP areas, including the perpetual battlefield of Ashran, where players can loot half of their fallen foes' PvP currency.

In a bid to strengthen the game's subscriber count and "make the transition to Warlords of Draenor as seamless as possible for current and returning players", Activision has made the title's first four expansions available to all existing World of Warcraft accounts.

Darn Dont why so many people like this game it dont look very cool to me sorry im not into this game

"this game dont look very cool to me."

It's not for everyone, you can't really speak about why people like to play it if you've never played it and have already given up on trying.

xKat Never played this game, never will.

Looks awful AND You have to pay monthly ?!? Screw that

You seem like the everyday Console user.

Not meant to look amazing, meant to look the way it looks.

Every MMO that is good you have to pay monthly.

Eh I am a PC player.
WOW looks like crap.
Almost looks as bad as Elder Scrolls Online.

As I said before, it's not meant to look like Crysis 3 on Ultra. It's meant to be cartoony but not to the borderlands point of cartoon.

ESO is completely different topic.

Before you complain about graphics do some research on how and why a game looks the way it does.

"Looks" can be deceiving, name another game with a subscription that comes even close to that number, they are doing something right and keep in mind this is almost years after release.

Dungeons and Dragons Online is F2P and P2P you can play F2P but get less stuff etc the game is so good when your P2P you must try it.

You haven't played the game, so you can't ask why people play it. You don't know if it's good or not.

Never played it yet you think its awful, well done you.

Yes I did prefer the old WoW a lot and have quit this game a long time ago, it does get boring and repetitive after a while though, the PvP would also be fun but there's way too many bots in it now and Blizz never ban them.

DeluxeHazard I have heard so much about World of Warcraft but I have never tried it once. With that many people playing it, the game must be worth a shot.
