DayZ isn't PS4 console exclusive, creator says

The upcoming DayZ console port won't be exclusive to PS4, its creator has said.

Asked whether DayZ will be coming to Xbox One as well as PS4, Dean Hall simply told Eurogamer that the title will be "multiplatform".

"DayZ is definitely going to be a multiplatform title, that's the firm vision from Bohemia's standpoint," Hall said. "But we'll announce what all the other platforms are as we get to that point.

Hall also discussed the possible release strategies for the game on PS4, including a Steam-style 'Early Access' system.

"There's a lot of problems with Early Access on PC that definitely are at the forefront of people's minds," he said. "So when DayZ will release would depend very much on what Sony offers in terms of - if it was going to do an Early Access program - what it looks like. Then also the state of DayZ - does it make sense to do it through that?"

Anyone hoping for a final retail version of DayZ may have to wait a while though, as Hall is clear that his priority is still working on and completing a final standalone PC version of the game first.

"[A release next year] would depend very much on what do the consoles offer in terms of release strategies," Hall explained. "A straight up retail release? It's not going to be next year, because there's just too much work remaining.

"It would be a very bizarre universe where there would be a 1.0 release of DayZ on consoles before PC."

Hall took to the stage during Sony's Gamescom press conference in August to announce that a port of DayZ was coming to PS4.

Although he didn't offer many specifics about the console version at the time, he did add that the making of the PS4 port has pushed the developer to make improvements to the game as a whole.

The standalone alpha version of the perma-death zombie survival game released on Steam Early Access and via Bohemia Interactive's online store on December 16, 2013. DayZ sales passed two million in May.

I think the irony of this article is that the main picture being used is from "Infestation Survivor Stories" which is one of the most hated zombie survival games ever made.

Although DayZ will not be exclusive, H1Z1 being made by Sony Online Entertainment will be. And currently, H1Z1 will be the the one that will be better to play imo as it will be running the planetside 2 engine.

MVPapi The standalone SUCKS compared to the original mod! And I can garuntee that the console port will suck even more, MMO games are better left for the PC - especially as when they're as good as the Arma 3 DayZ Mod

They'll be different for sure but with the new hardware in place, let's see what's possible and how well it'll play and work out. Especially with the restrictions of having no keyboard for buttons which do different things and the the aim and movement restrictions too.
