Destiny ships $500 million, highest-selling digital console release

4.7
Activision announced this morning it has shipped over $500 million worth of MMO-shooter Destiny into "retail stores and first parties worldwide" as of day one. The number is a little messy to extrapolate because it mushes up the "shipped" dollar figure we try to avoid reporting when possible, with the nutritious digitally distributed "sold" number.

The takeaway here: Destiny is on track to be another billion-dollar franchise for Activision Blizzard. The publisher is swimming in cash and has an enviable portfolio that includes World of Warcraft, Call of Duty and Skylanders. The company also has a quieter monster hit in Hearthstone, which we know has continued to increase "revenue and engagement," but the company has yet to give any specific data on how successful it is beyond noting it "brought in millions of new accounts on Battle.net."

Katsumi Wow now this is quite insane, i have not heard too many good things about it though

Seriously? The game is outstanding, it's just as fun as Halo 3 was in my opinion.

It will be one of the most sold games soon enough.

That's pretty impressive but I am still positive that this game will die down withing the nest few weeks. The same happened with GTA V and Titanfall so it's not going to be a huge shock if, and when it happens with Destiny. I, personally, am not wasting my money on it. It doesn't even look like that good a game.

Imagine how much games like GTA 5 or Call of Duty would make if they sold digitally on day one. Pretty insane.

I agree. I don't personally, own it (yet). But I've really only heard that it's a mix between Halo and Call of Duty.

That is a hell of a lot of money. If I had that much I would buy ttg ;)... anyway, good for them though. I bet they will get a lot more when they actually put the full game out there.

Thats a lot of money for a beta.

Exactly, the game is a hoot. Most people who are complaining clearly haven't even played the game. It's a really fun time.

Zips I'm still unsure of getting destiny, just reminds me of halo so much

Well, it was made by Bungie..

It's really fun though, the actual multiplayer isn't like Halo. I'd suggest getting it.

So Activision didn't make zombies for this, this pisses me off.
