Nintendo Confirms New Nintendo 3DS Will Be Region-Locked

4.2
Nintendo fans were in for a big shock a few weeks back with the reveal of the latest addition to the Nintendo 3DS family, the New Nintendo 3DS, with its added second analog stick and faster processor – but, Nintendo also confirmed it will share one major attribute with its other family members.

In a written statement, Nintendo confirmed that the New Nintendo 3DS will be region-locked and unable to play foreign games outside of the system’s region, with the company confirming that “the situation will be exactly the same as for the current family of Nintendo 3DS systems” (3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS). Though the New Nintendo 3DS will be receiving added games with its faster processor that previous 3DS models could not play, its region-locking means it won’t be able to play other games outside of its region, just like the other 3DS models.
The New Nintendo 3DS will be releasing in 2015.

Sanctorum Region locking is such a horrible idea. Consoles, games, DVDs, Blu-Rays etc should work everywhere, regardless of where they're purchased as long as you get a compatible charger/power supply. It baffles me that some things are still region locked. Even some stuff like US speaker won't work in the UK which is moronic. I bought speakers from the US(I live in the UK) because the price was much better than in the UK and I had to cut the cable and rewire it to a UK plug for it to work. It shouldn't be that hard. I should be able to remove the power supply and fit a UK one. For example, I use German monitors. All I had to do was remove the German socket 8 pin connectors and plug in my UK socket 8 pin connector, simple.

Bottom line, anything bought anywhere should work everywhere.

I don't see the point in region locking myself either. If you do buy something you should be able to play/use it anywhere you want.

Ethics why would they want to limit the sales? that makes absolutely no sense to me.

I know right? I can't think of a downside to selling it everywhere. Just more money to Nintendo.

Whomever started Region-lock anything should be thrown in a dungeon and forgotten. Seriously why would you want to limit sales of any kind. People want imports? Let them, seriously what is the point in stopping such things? Sheesh
