PSN gets knocked down again

4.4
The PlayStation Network servers are currently out of commission for the second time in as many days. Sony posted a notice to its official Twitter account that its engineers are "aware of connectivity issues" and "are working to resolve" them.

PSN suffered an outage for the majority of Sunday thanks to an apparent DDoS attack (distributed denial of service). Sony noted that no personal information was accessed in the attack. Both PSN and Sony Entertainment Network were "impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic," though it's unclear if that's also causing today's issues. We'll update this post when PSN is up and running again.

Update: Sony said that "network connectivity is being restored," and thanks players for their patience.

DeluxeHazard This is just plain dumb now. I don't understand why someone enjoys causing annoyance towards millions of people who have no effect on their lives.

I don't understand why people go to church!:) I guess it is all down to personal opinion on what you like to do.

Once again, I dont see why people can't just enjoy what they have. People getting enjoyment by taking others away is just sad.

This isn't the first time and it definitely won't be the last since they can't seem to want to update their servers security!

Urf This thread = bunch of idiots who have no idea what DDoSing is and how hard it is to circumvent it. Typical TTG users

Static IPs stop this from happening as well as letting your ISP know that you (or Sony in this case) is being DoS attacked. They have the power through servers and things along that nature to stop this kind of thing from happening.

Not everyone on this thread is an "idiot" as you say.

Shooting your opinion out there as if it is fact makes you sound like the idiot.

Please don't assume others are idiots when you don't even know what you're talking about.

Static IP = One IP that never changes, meaning that if someone wants to DoS you, they can do it as often as they want, due to you having the same IP. Dynamic IPs are a good way of avoiding DoS attacks, unless your computer is infected by some type of malware that sends data to the person who is attacking you, that is. Also, telling your ISP that you're being attacked doesn't mean they will take any action. The best thing they can do from their end is change your static IP, which they probably won't/can't do anyway unless you give them a good reason to.

Sony (more than likely) has load balancers, which distribute high traffic among different servers to prevent other servers from going down during times of high activity or DoS attacks, but having load balancers doesn't mean that you are immune to DoS attacks. Nobody is immune to them. It's all based on who's doing the attack, what ports they're attacking through, the power of the attack, which servers they are hitting, how many people are attacking, and so on and so forth. Don't try to 1-up somebody by talking out of your rear. It makes you both look like idiots. I honestly hope you're just baiting, because if you are, you got me really good.

Also, Urf, this isn't a "thread." Go back to your terrible imageboard and stay there if you're just going to call people idiots and not back up your statement. Sure, I may be an idiot, but I'm a decently-informed idiot. That's all I have to say, please feel free to rag on me for writing this huge novel that nobody will read or care about. Thank you.
