Twitch confirms sale to Amazon for $970 million

4.5
Amazon.com will purchase video game streaming service Twitch for approximately $970 million in cash. There you go, streamers. Happy? It wasn't Google!

"Like Twitch, we obsess over customers and like to think differently, and we look forward to learning from them and helping them move even faster to build new services for the gaming community," said Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos as part of today's announcement.

Twitch CEO Emmett Shear added, "Being part of Amazon will let us do even more for our community. We will be able to create tools and services faster than we could have independently. This change will mean great things for our community, and will let us bring Twitch to even more people around the world."

The acquisition is expected to close in the second half of 2014.

Yoke Holy... Everyone is buying eachother.

yeah i agree the big companys just buying everything and making more money

This isn't a new thing. A couple supercompanies own the majority of all companies in the USA. Some companies own multiple products which rival each other, like Pepsi and Coke (although they aren't owned by the same company)

Not happy, but hopefully Amazon realise what Google does is bad for their image.

At least it wasn't Google, seeing as YouTube started to go downhill after it was bought out by Google (I'm talking with user reviews based on how Google started changing YouTube, not it's popularity or anything.)

I would do the same thing, I don't really care as long as they aren't ruined

Chances are, it probably will be ruined, i don't see how amazon could make it better

There was that 'copyright' scare during the google talk. Maybe Amazon will do the same thing.

Meaning: If you don't have the rights to broadcast the music/lyrics in your stream you get muted as it's technically illegal. That includes game music. (Obviously not better..It's worse!) But Amazon isn't google..So maybe they'll find something better for it? You never know. Perhaps they'll just leave it be to make some side cash.

Amazon purchased twitch? Oh man, what a relief... But $970 million? That's insane, I would have never thought twitch was worth that much.

Wow, twitch was worth $970 million dollars? Or was it just because they had the money to spend...
