Video: Super Mario Bros speed run world record broken

4.7
The world record for the fastest time to beat Super Mario Bros has been broken.

Speedrunner 'Blubbler' has beaten what was previously considered the fastest possible way to beat the game, which previously resulted in a world record of 4:58:09.

By using a recently discovered glitch and being able to pull it off during a speedrun however, Blubbler has been able to reduce that to a new record time of 4:57.69.

The glitch occurs at the end of World 8-2. By jumping on a Bullet Bill just as he hits the corner of the flagpole, Mario doesn't have to walk to the castle and the game accumulates the score instantly instead of waiting for him to get there.

You can see the full speedrun below. Congratulations to Blubbler!

Brigand There were some close calls during that speedrun.
Don't have the proper skill to be pulling that off.

KiingGottii Keyword! Glitched so its not a official record n i swear he was going threw plants going threw them moving lines of firebAlls he must of took him years of practice every jump was perfect he studied the **** out of game

The hitbox does not cover the entire plant/firesticks so you can pass through the edges of them and not get hit/killed.

The science people get these things down to is beyond me. Sure it's the world record now, but all that for 40 milliseconds is beyond me. I like it though.

drrkknyt there are parts that look double jumped. i just ran through the game at the same spots where the "near misses" occurred and yeah i died. so i question if anything additional was used. but faster than i have patience for.

Actually it's possible to double jump or wall jump in that game. It was something like it has to be a flat surface, you jump at it and if the foot of Mario is on top of the block and you like shake in the game, you can jump again as it registers you as landing so you can jump again. You can also jump against walls without having to have your foot on the top block, but I don't know how that's done, although I'm sure it's a very similar method.
