Xbox 360 owners deserve more games, Spencer says

4.6
Xbox head Phil Spencer says Microsoft is obligated to support Xbox 360, meaning the company does not plan to cultivate games exclusively for Xbox One in the near future.

Spencer explained why the company isn't dropping all of its efforts elsewhere to focus on boosting Xbox One's first-party lineup of games in an E3 interview with Metro.

"If you bought your Xbox 360 a year and a half ago, I think we have an obligation there," Spencer said. "We're going to sell millions more Xbox 360s before this generation is done and when people make a £100+ commitment to us, they're gonna come in and buy an Xbox 360, I want to make sure that there's content for them."

Investing in the new generation is important, Spencer said, but not everyone has bought an Xbox One yet and Microsoft knows abandoning those consumers would be a poor move.

It's part of a delicate balance, because a strong first-party line-up is a good way to encourage third-party developers to compete on the system. But creating a good feedback loop isn't the only thing on publishers' minds.

"For a third party this is the nice part of the curve for the last generation, because you've got millions of people out there and they want to sell content that these people will buy," Spencer said. "They also want to kickstart the new generation successfully, so you'll see a lot of them doing a little bit of both."

ImZuttz Huh, I think Xbox One owners deserve more games, since we paid $540 for the console and it doesn't have that many good games.

Yeah, but 360 has been around for ages, and not to mention, but with all the games dedicated 360 players like myself paid for, would double your $450 console. Therefore, spending more money for games.

Well Xbox 360 was one of the Key Factors for there success.

Yeah but its extra time the developers of these games have to spend making it for both consoles. Devs are already on a very strict time plan for making games and shouldn't have to waste resources so that an almost nine year old console can run these next gen games.

Blah blah blah they just do it for the money.

I'm glad they realize that this really matters! I can't wait for new content.

Yuki They really should only support the 360 for 1 or 2 more years, gives the current owners enough time to upgrade.

The 360 is outdated, there is no point producing more games for it if there are consoles with better hardware.

it's 3 years left for the severs

There is no confirmation of the life span of the servers.
