E3 - H1Z1 sit down with Adam Clegg at SOE

4.6
We started off our E3 with a shuttle ride over to the Westin Bonaventure courtesy of the nice folks at Sony Online Entertainment to check out their recent progress on their upcoming title H1Z1. When we got over there and went up to their suite we were greeted by Adam Clegg, Game Designer with SOE, who proceeded to show us the current state of H1Z1. While Adam was booting up a local server for us to use he filled us in what the team at SOE had to have done before they would be willing to launch Early Access. The SOE team feels they need to have a working prone system, complete set of player animations, and a logical system of character idling animations.

When he finally got the server going for us he began to walk us through the world of H1Z1, the developers intend for players to utilize crafting at every step within progression throughout the game. Adam made it very clear that even at Early Access players would be able to survive 100% in the woods and never go near other players or towns via chopping down trees and hunting. As in many other games of the genre the higher risk the higher reward, small towns have scattered zombies while bases and large cities are rather infested. They plan to have vehicle degradation and repairs added in before Early Access launches in order to avoid nasty situations where vehicle usage will undermine key aspects of the game.

H1Z1 is due to enter Early Access in the coming months, development permitting.
