Xbox 360 and Wii owners have migrated to PS4, Sony says

3.7
Research shows that a significant number of Xbox 360 and Wii owners have migrated to PS4 during the early stages of the latest console cycle, according to Sony.

In a newly published PlayStation interview, Worldwide Studios senior VP of product development Scott Rohde cited data from industry tracking firm Nielsen to back up the company's claim.

"Everyone in this industry always tracks that kind of stuff," he told CVG. "It's always fascinating to look at all this data. So, two of the things I can talk about - because they're true. 17 per cent of PS4 owners did not own a last-gen console. That in itself is a pretty shocking number.

"31 per cent of PS4 owners did not own a PS3, but they did own either an Xbox 360 or Wii," Rohde continued. "Now, those are some pretty amazing numbers. And that's why, again, I think we're doing things like bringing The Last of Us to PS4, because there's a huge percentage of those people who never got to play it and that's a shame."

Sony recently said that PS4 sales stood at seven million units as of April 6, while Microsoft said in late April that Xbox One shipments totalled five million units. Both platforms launched in November 2013, one year after Wii U. As of March 31, lifetime Wii U sales totalled 6.17 million units.

Dummazz420 Microsoft will always have the best exclusives with Halo, Forza Horizon, and Sunset Overdrive which all look more promising then any Sony exlusive. Also I would like to say that as cliche as it might sound, "It's a marathon, not a sprint". "Sony will be posting yet another multi-billion dollar loss this year. The 2014/2015 fiscal year is predicted to end with a $490 million loss. It's the sixth loss in seven years and brings the grand total to nearly $100 billion."
Sony may or may not have the revenue in future years to pursue the video game market. "Microsoft, on the other hand, is making money. The company posted an $8 billion profit for 2013 but the console division didn't contribute much to the success." I would also like to add the thought about console availability. Xbox will be adding 26 more countries to their market by September. With Microsoft now being close to the availability as Sony, we might see that sale gap greatly decrease.

In conclusion although Sony is winning the console war now, Microsoft is the slow tortoise looking at the finish line, not 2 feet in front of him such as the boasting hare. But most importantly lets all remember that this is what's great about economic competition. The consumer, not the producer comes out on top.

You sir have to much to to do research. just take a look at Sony exclusives and the support the game dev are giving the playstation over the xbox. Uncharted and the last of us both wall all over any xbox exclusive and the supporting games...Destiny, GTA, Dead island, Battlefield the list goes on. the only supporting game worth mentioning for the xbox is CoD but thats dead need I say more?

Uncharted is a linear 3rd person action/shooter. i remember when the third game was free on PS+ WOW was it absolutely boring. The Last of Us isn't "exclusive worthy. i bought the game thinking "wow should be amazing". the MP is crap and the story was average. so no those games don't walk over any Xbox exclusives come back when you get better ones.

I disagree the last of us had an amazing story better than any i have every played and i dont think it should be MP tbh its not designed for MP play imo

Titanfall beats out every single one of those games. And its exclusive to PC/Xbox. The thing is that most people prefer the Xbox to that of the Playstation. This may change since the Xbox One is now pricier than that of the Playstation 4 seeing as the Xbox 360 was always cheaper than the Playstation 3.

I am one of those people, I find PS4 way better IMO.

I think it's crazy how Nintendo doesn't come out with a console that can keep up. Sony have already surpassed and Microsoft's not far off surpassing Nintendo's sales already, that's just sad.

I do believe that PS4 is doing amazingly well, obviously better than Xbox One, but I call bullcrap on these numbers.

Not too uprising. I am an Xbox 360 owner who has never played a PS3, however i am planning to buy a PS4 over an Xbox One
