Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One is 1080p, 30fps

4.6
The Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 2 will render natively at 1080p and run at 30 frames per second.

This is in contrast to launch title Forza Motorsport 5, which ran at 1080p and 60fps.

"I think what we did on Horizon was demonstrate that, and this is really important, a locked frame rate that's absolutely solid and never drops is the most important thing for our game," Playground Games creative director Ralph Fulton told IGN.

"I think I remember that's always a hot-button topic, until a game comes out and people go, 'Oh, this actually really works'. But 1080p was an absolute must for us, it's the benchmark for next-gen."

Asked why Horizon 2 will be locked at 30fps whereas Forza 5 was 60fps, Fulton replied that it was necessary because Horizon's free-roaming gameplay meant the console wouldn't be able to accurately predict and pre-load upcoming scenery in advance, something a normal linear racing game is more capable of doing.

"The biggest difference is that, obviously, we're an open-world streaming game," Fulton explained. "We need to be able to drive in any direction at up to 270 miles an hour, if you're gonna soup up a Veyron or something like that.

"So one of the big technical challenges that we had to face was making sure that we could stream in a world that is next-gen beautiful, but fast enough to keep up with the fastest car. That's a huge tech challenge but it's one that our guys just eat up."

Forza Horizon 2 was announced in early June, and is planned for release on Xbox One and Xbox 360 in fall 2014.

The Xbox 360 version is being developed separately on the Forza Horizon engine by Sumo Digital.

30fps is a little disappointing, But maybe the gameplay itself will make up for that.

TSNYC This game looks really good. Loved the first one and glad to see this one on the Horizon (excuse the pun)

My impressions exactly, I'd love to get this game.

I am really surprised that the Xbox One couldn't support an open world at 60fps. I wonder if this game is going to be better then Forza Horizon graphics wise and I wonder if the 30fps difference will really be that different and if we can actually notice it just playing it.

Yeah, can't wait to see these new additions to each console. New games are being released left and right. Can't wait!

Xsplay wow thats badf if its running games in full hd now in 30fps how is it gonna play games next year or the year after that

lol this is a funny comment this dude doesn't know what fps is. Do research before posting please. fps-frames per second its just how fast the pictures move. #Dumbed it down for dumbos.

Not really I assume he's talking about games which will come out in a couple of years time, not this game in a couple of years, don't be such a smartass.

Well at least it runs in 1080p, it would suck if it was in 720p and 30 FPS.

lilrichard22 Why is announcing the fps a thing now? It didn't matter at all with the 360 and ps3.

That is because all games were under the assumption of running at 60 fps

I am actually so excited about this game. I don't even care that it's only 30 FPS, I don't expect much from consoles anyway. It would be absolutely amazing to see this released on PC, which unfortunately won't happen so I will have to settle but I seriously can't wait for this.

OmittingCoder 30 frames? WOW that's sad. Really sad. These new consoles should be able to hold 60 frames. Especially on a racing game.

Yeah, I was expecting it to be higher since it's next gen.
