Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One is 1080p, 30fps

4.6
The Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 2 will render natively at 1080p and run at 30 frames per second.

This is in contrast to launch title Forza Motorsport 5, which ran at 1080p and 60fps.

"I think what we did on Horizon was demonstrate that, and this is really important, a locked frame rate that's absolutely solid and never drops is the most important thing for our game," Playground Games creative director Ralph Fulton told IGN.

"I think I remember that's always a hot-button topic, until a game comes out and people go, 'Oh, this actually really works'. But 1080p was an absolute must for us, it's the benchmark for next-gen."

Asked why Horizon 2 will be locked at 30fps whereas Forza 5 was 60fps, Fulton replied that it was necessary because Horizon's free-roaming gameplay meant the console wouldn't be able to accurately predict and pre-load upcoming scenery in advance, something a normal linear racing game is more capable of doing.

"The biggest difference is that, obviously, we're an open-world streaming game," Fulton explained. "We need to be able to drive in any direction at up to 270 miles an hour, if you're gonna soup up a Veyron or something like that.

"So one of the big technical challenges that we had to face was making sure that we could stream in a world that is next-gen beautiful, but fast enough to keep up with the fastest car. That's a huge tech challenge but it's one that our guys just eat up."

Forza Horizon 2 was announced in early June, and is planned for release on Xbox One and Xbox 360 in fall 2014.

The Xbox 360 version is being developed separately on the Forza Horizon engine by Sumo Digital.

Gossip Is there a noticeable difference between 30fps - 60 tsp?

Yes there is. Its a huge difference. Not saying 30fps is bad, but id rather have it 720p @60 FPS. Much smoother.

-Cookie- Graphics will be amazing but I feel that 30fps will actually make it laggy and awful :(. They should offer a 720p option with 60fps. I find it difficult to play games w/o 60fps.

LOL. It would not be laggy. You would not notice a difference. I know 60fps would be preferred, but a open world game with top of the line graphics. Its not possible right now.

Its a racing game, there is literally no point in 60 fps... you will be driving to fast to even be able to look around or do anything to make the fps even noticable. Also its locked on 30fps so it shouldn't drop below 30fps.

Miss Only 30fps? Doesn't the Xbox One easily run at 60fps?

Neither console does. Forza 5 was 1080p 60 fps but Horizon is an open world game, no chance it would run at 60 fps on either console.
