Microsoft exec offers reasons why PS4 is outselling Xbox One

A Microsoft executive has given a number of potential reasons why the Xbox One is currently being outsold by the PlayStation 4.

Xbox chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi told Forbes that there are a number of possible explanations for the PS4 selling roughly three million more systems than the Xbox One to date.

One reason given was that the Xbox One isn't available in as many territories as the PS4. "It's hard to really assess the gap in sales," he explained.

"[Sony are] in many more markets right now than we are. They're in 40+ markets, we're in 13."

Another suggestion offered by Mehdi was that Xbox 360 owners may be happier with their consoles and not as keen to abandon it just yet.

"People have been more satisfied with the Xbox 360 than the PS3, so in that respect people have less of a need to upgrade in the short term due to regular updates for the Xbox 360," he surmised. "We could point to any number of things."

Mehdi did concede there were some other factors that could be addressed, however, adding: "That said, we've heard from a lot of our Xbox fans who say, 'Hey look, I want an Xbox One, but at $499, I probably have to wait a little while before I can afford to get one.'

"I do think we're going to get people now who move over, and then buy the Kinect later. So I do think the [price point] broadens the appeal and hopefully brings more people to Xbox One sooner."

TranZit_Man They missed the reason that Sony killed it at e3 they made microsoft look stupid with all the restriction they had before they removed them, and also the price of the Xbone was more expensive and apparently you need the kinect. microsoft needed to remove the kinect to drop the price.... its like they're begging for sales.

Sony did kill it with assassin's creed frizzing and there only points were unlike xbox. unlike xbox was probably the most used term. Pathetic if you ask me its spose to be a business not a 5 year old argument. we can both say E3 2013 Sucked overall. becuase it wasn't focused on games.

I can believe both of those reasons as they mae perfect sense. The 360 is still a really good console as where the PS3 was ok.

Lol everything I saw about the PS4 was about how Xbox One sucks from Sony. It was the worst and most immature campaign ever. I just want to know the features not talking smack on your competitor. That alone shut me off to the ps4. I know a lot of people who aren't buying the Xbox simply because its too much right now and they are happy with the 360. I'm not sure why you believe your opinion is a fact, but it's not.

Exactly Ps4 instanly sold out at release while tons of xbox one were on sale and ps4 campaign has been better.
