Mojang's Owen Hill offers new details on forthcoming ports

Mojang is aiming for a 'Q2 / Q3' release for Minecraft on PlayStation 4 and Vita, a spokesperson has said.

The news comes via Mojang's Owen Hill, who has addressed several fan questions in the comments section of a recent PlayStation blog.

Answering to queries regarding the Vita edition, Hill writes that the port will be "up-to-date with the console versions," and that he expects the framerate to be "lovely and smooth."

While details on cross-buy and upgrade options are still forthcoming, Hill does mention that the studio plans to enable world transfer from PS3 to PS4, and possibly also the PS Vita.

Meanwhile, Hill doesn't rule out discounts on the PS Vita version for those who already own the PS3 edition.

Mojang announced last week that a retail edition of Minecraft for PS3 will release May 14 in Europe and Australia.

Minecraft for PS4 was announced in August last year, ahead of the console's November launch. Minecraft will also release for Xbox One with the promise of "bigger worlds" and "more multiplayer".

Minecraft continues to be a big seller for Mojang: it had sold 12 million copies for Xbox 360 as of the beginning of April, and more than 14 million copies on PC as of February 2014.
