Titanfall producer: “I don’t know if it’s making profit. I don’t care”

4.7
Titanfall producer Drew McCoy ain’t give a **** if his game is making dollars, he’s doing it for the love.

Speaking to GameSpot, McCoy said he’s happy the development team is still working on it – he’s not in this business for the cheddar.

“I don’t know if it’s making a profit, I don’t know if it’s meeting sales expectations. I don’t really care,” he said.

“I care that I worked on a game that I can sit down and enjoy playing. The fact that people enjoy it and it has made enough that we [get to] continue supporting it as a studio, that’s to me a success. We make games because we love them and we want other people to play them with us.”

Love won’t buy the baby new shoes, Drew.

He didn’t want to be drawn on competition with the likes of Battlefield or Call of Duty, but said he hopes that Titanfall inspires others to make games their own way rather than follow a formula.

“There’s been some really colossal failures… there’s been games that looked at what’s popular and go ‘oh, if we have this, people will buy our game.’ And then it just completely fails, because they missed the reason as to why that game was good and they didn’t try anything new.”

“So I hope what Titanfall does, as a gamer and as someone who wants to see the industry get better and make cooler stuff, is try new things and not just try and copy what’s good.”

Thank god he's not just money hungry.

If you play Titanfall you will see that when he says:

"try new things and not just try and copy whats good.

He has done exactly that in this game. Taking aspects from other games and putting it into one isn't sneaky and unnoticeable just like a teacher can tell when you've copied and pasted a different paragraph from a different site for an essay and you try to pass it off as original.

i agree that at least he didn't just copy other games but if you really believe that he doesn't know about that stuff come on these guys have meetings and sheets end up on their desk with the numbers he knows but saying stuff like this does get people on board for your future projects as you will be know as the guys who do it for the love smart move

Sounds more like a marketing technique than a love for the game tbh

To be honest this sounds like a lot of BS to me. How would he not know these stats?

That is a damn lie. why make a game and sell it to a mass of people if you dont care for the money.

Im not falling for his BS, but it looks like many people are.

Most likely why the game's so good, since they care about the game/players rather than the money.

Proves that there isn't just money hungry devs out there
