Popcorn Time, Netflix for pirates, is closing

4.6
Popcorn Time was a multi-platform torrenting app that mimicked Netflix functionality via torrents. Users could stream movies through torrent files the same way a Netflix subscriber could simply load up Netflix and go. Despite their abrupt closing the service's creators are sticking to their guns that what they were doing was 100% legal. The closure was announced in the form of a message on their homepage detailing their history, accolades, and exact reasons for their shutdown.

Our experiment has put us at the doors of endless debates about piracy and copyright, legal threats and the shady machinery that makes us feel in danger for doing what we love. And that’s not a battle we want a place in.

We've shown that people will risk fines, lawsuits and whatever consequences that may come just to be able to watch a recent movie in slippers. Just to get the kind of experience they deserve.

Those who have previously installed the application are expected to retain access as the application isn't reliant on a central server from it's developer.

Bias Dang, wish I knew about this earlier :/ definitely would have gotten it

well if your going to torrent movies off the app why not just see if you can torrent the app

torrent the app? what would be the point? Their servers are not active so you would have the app and you wouldn't be able to do anything lol.

That's like stealing a car without a petrol tank and engine.
