Facebook releasing new look for News Feed today

3.9
It is very clear that Facebook's News Feed is a giant factor in site usage so one year ago the company released plans for major design changes to the site fixture for both desktop and mobile iterations. The mobile user interface tweaks were seen by mobile users without much dismay but the same could not be said for the desktop version for the unlucky few in a private test for the tweaks. The desktop design featured complicated menus and ill thought out filters for both the left and right side columns of your News Feed, it didn't get raving reviews from those involved in the private test. According to Facebook those design decisions will not be included in the design rolling out today to desktop users.

The new design features a brand new look for News Feed including larger images than previous designs, a new font , and a light gray background. Among the changes the left side column is a tad smaller along with a few page icons being swapped out.

The design will roll out in batches to users over the next few weeks yet while mobile users will retain their current user interface.

Ethics Considering how big facebook is, it only takes one thing to make people dislike it then they have lost a lot of money. I cannot imagine the planing and research that has to be carried out for just a small thing like changing colors.

I am glad that they did this because the old one is starting to get boring.
but yeah in the past they changed FB and it made it look terrible.

Bagged Finally Facebook is getting different it's been getting old the same way it's been for a while.

Yeah it certainly is, they're starting to update it pretty well.

I agree, for a popular social networking site you'd figure they'd be open to change more often.

I still have the very old Facebook Design, now finally after a freaking year they deside to release it. It's about time! Still don't understand why they would do it in batches, it's kinda the long way of doing it. Unless they have some weird system that they save each layout per user seperatly, which I highly doubt.

Before you start to get angry, please note that i'm a programmer who build lots of large projects (even larger than TTG) and I have my own company. So i kinda know what i'm talking about. Now you may get angry at me.

-Kieran- Nice to see a new layout for Facebook.

Time it was updated IMO.

Yeah, It made things a lot more easier considering the new layout is a lot more organized than the last layout. +1 for Facebook.

RGHSigned Hopefully Facebook doesn't end up like Myspace with these updates. I mean right now I don't really notice anything, but just saying. Myspace got worse with their constant updates that made the site so slow and laggy.

Facebook runs on a way way bigger server than myspace, so that won't be a problem at all.
