Rockstar's blockbuster fast approaching the record as best-selling console game ever

Rockstar has shipped a total of around 32.5 million copies of Grand Theft Auto V, the company announced Monday.

Previously declared the the "best-selling video game of 2013" in US, according to figures from US sales tracking firm NPD Group, GTA V looks set to soon break the record as the best-selling console game of all time.

The best-selling console game of all time (not bundled) is currently Mario Kart Wii, at 34 million units, meaning that Rockstar North has that record within reach.

Released on September 17, Rockstar's acclaimed open-world title generated $800 million in worldwide sales in a single day, with GTA V revenues reaching $1 billion after just three days.

By early November, GTA V was on its way to becoming the best-selling console game of all time, with about 29 million copies sold into retail. Further sales will likely come from additional DLC and the long-rumoured GTA V for PC, should it materialise.

That is crazy how well this game is received and how big it is. I mean they have done and sold in a few months what it took Mario Kart two or three years top achieve. When they say 32.5 million units shipped that means sold or does that mean sent to stores to be shipped?

blog I am sure this game is going to break a lot more records in the future, with its $1 billion dollar sale after only 3 days I am sure a lot more people are going to buy this game.


I hope it does, they just need to release a DLC that brings everyone back to GTA. Or when they make another GTA i bet that would break a ton of records as well.

It looks like GTA V will become the new best-selling console game before the first half of the year is over. I thoroughly enjoy the game and the DLC further improves the game. I am looking forward to seeing how many copies of the game are sold by the end of 2014, I am wanting GTA V to reach 40 million.
