Elder Scrolls Online requires Xbox Gold, but not PS Plus

PS4 version can be played with single monthly fee, yet Xbox One edition requires two subscriptions

The PS4 version of The Elder Scrolls Online will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription, Bethesda has confirmed.

Usually, Plus membership is required to access online play on Sony's console, thus there was the possibility that PS4 owners would be required to pay two separate monthly payments in order to play the MMO.

However, it's now been confirmed that PS4 owners will only be required to pay the same monthly subscription associated with The Elder Scrolls Online that PC and Mac users will pay.

Conversely, Microsoft has confirmed to Joystiq that the Xbox One version will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play.

Bethesda previously claimed it was hoping the service could work on both systems.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to release for PC and Mac on April 4, 2014 (4/4/14), followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June 2014.

Those who purchase the MMO will receive unlimited access for the first 30 days following activation. Beyond that, a subscription of $14.99/month (€12.99 / £8.99) will be required.

In a new PlayStation Blog fan Q&A Bethesda confirmed that ESO servers will be split between region (Europe and North America) and platform, so PC and Mac players will not be able to play with PS4 users and vice versa.

An Elder Scrolls Online beta will launch on PlayStation 4 "later this year".

Ethan- Pay to play is the STUPIDEST idea ever. All these stupid micro transactions add up and it grinds my gears. I bought a PS4 and PS+, yet i still have to pay to play a game online? Huge disappointment...

It's an MMO, if you want to play a good MMO then you have to pay. If you want a **** MMO, then go play RuneScape or some other.. ****.

Destiny is gonna be a MMO and you wont have to pay to play 15 a month to play it!

Same with The Division it's a mmo

Exactly and this **** wants me to pay 60$ to buy it and then a 15$ membership like..no

I can see where you guys are coming from, and it makes sense. But they're strictly doing it for money, obviously.

I do not think it have to do with making raw money. It might have to deal with the servers and maintenance of the game. Since it's going to be a big game, they are going to need as much resources as possible or ESO will end up like GTA for the few days.

IMO, they should've made the graphics / gameplay much much better.

They have a in game store where you can buy stuff with real money, it's about the money.

It's not just about money, for the most part games that require monthly transactions do so because the cost to run the massive amount of dedicated servers would cause them to loose money if they did not charge persistent fees. Only the best MMOs IMO charge monthly, among these hallowed elite lay the monsters of the gaming world like Eve Online. Which is the only computer game to consistently gain more subscriptions than the previous each year for 9 years straight. No matter who you are, you cannot argue with facts good sirs.

That's weird. I can't get into Elder Scrolls online though. I never really liked MMORPG's as much as other people did. I do love the elder Scrolls series though.

I am still yet to purchase a next gen console and to see that Microsoft will not allow any gold bypasses for pay to play games frustrates me. To see that Sony will allow users to play this game without PS+ subscription is a positive thing and they way things should be. I have been using my ps3 more than my Xbox recently and have even purchased PS+ so for me this may be a deciding factor in choosing the ps4 over the Xbox one.
