Xbox One: competitive digital pricing is “on the agenda”, says Nelson

4.6
Xbox Live’s digital pricing has been discussed by Microsoft’s community man Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb, and he has told one gamer that a closer look at competitive prices is on the agenda moving forward.

It follows the high cost of Xbox One and PS4 digital games on demand like FIFA 14 and 360 titles like Angry Birds Trilogy.

Now, in a Reddit thread, Hryb responded to a complaint about this Titanfall pre-order incentive, and wrote, “We are way aware of this and many of the concerns of the community – we have some great stuff planned for Xbox One this year (and beyond.) As soon as we can share some of the goodness…we will :) ”

Elsewhere he was asked if Microsoft was going to look in to competitive pricing on Xbox Live, and replied, “It is indeed on the agenda.”

Would you like to see the cost of digital titles on Xbox Live – and indeed, PSN – reduced? Let us know below.

I wonder if by share some of the goodness he means give away a free game every month like they did last year. I think that digital games should not stay the same price as they don't have anywhere near the flexibility of a disk copy.

I'd rather pay say... $10 extra to get the hard copy to be honest. As much as I love the digital age, some things I just much prefer hard copies of. Xbox games being one of them, CD albums/disks being another.

The prices should be cheaper for Games on Demand.

-Mark It would be great if they could make digital games cheaper. I think they would also find it to be very successful too.

They would make more money, more people would buy it at $25 on Xbox than if it was $45 on disk, and it also gives people the chance to keep the game with it being broken!

I promise you they wont lower new games to $25. They are most likely talking about lowering it only $10.

They will not lower it by too much, just enough to compete with that of retail stores...

Well of course that makes sense. Nice feature though.

I agree, but it shouldn't be that much cheaper. I mean, a digital copy in my opinion is better than having a disc mainly because a disc can get ruined in so many ways. With a digital copy, you never have to worry about ruining your disc. I would pay the same price and maybe even more for a digital copy over a hard copy. I've gone through 5 MW2's, guess it's just my luck but that's over $100. I should have just downloaded it to begin with.

Years ago Major Nelson said on his blog that you would never pay more for games on xbox live if they were cheaper else where. Then steam started having sales all the time and he went back and deleted his post. Due to this, I'll believe it when I see it actually happens.
