Rockstar cracking down on GTA Online cheaters

Guilty players may be placed in isolated cheater pools or banned altogether

Rockstar has announced plans to crack down on Grand Theft Auto Online cheaters.

The studio is to penalise players who, in recent weeks, have exploited the free-roaming multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto 5 by generating and distributing "game-breaking amounts of in-game cash". Guilty players may be placed in isolated cheater pools or banned from playing the game altogether.

On Monday, Rockstar released a GTA Online patch designed to boost anti-cheating measures and squash GTA$ and Reputation Points exploits.

GTA Online was then taken offline for maintenance starting January 15/16 at 9pm EST/2am GMT. Rockstar said on Thursday that the maintenance period, which is not expected to exceed 24 hours, will be used to remove counterfeit GTA$ from the game's economy.

"Anyone that innocently received GTA$ as a result of these exploits but did not engage in cheating to acquire it will not face any further action - the funds will just be removed , and you'll be able to keep any items you currently own," the studio said.

"Those who actively engaged in cheating and exploiting the game in this manner will, however, be subject to in-game penalties at our discretion. This may include being placed in isolated cheater pools or banned from GTA Online altogether.

"Should you ever encounter someone in GTA Online that appears to be taking advantage of exploits in your session, we ask that you alert us directly via the in-game reporting functionality. In the Pause menu, under the Online tab, select Players and scroll to the offending player. From there, select Report and choose Exploits from the violation options.

"We're grateful for the community's continued support in dealing with these issues and once again apologize to anyone that has had their Grand Theft Auto Online experience sullied by these exploits that broke the game's natural flow. Please stay tuned for lots more news about GTA Online in the weeks ahead."

We all got screwed over by R*, legit or not legit they reset most of our money.

If you modded any kind of game, Call of duty, Halo etc you will always get banned so you should be lucky your only getting your money reset.

Yah they toke everyone money away.

Katsumi This makes sense... i would rather them punish people who modded the game than just leave it alone

As long as they don't mix them up with the people who did play legit.

OfficialLeon Rockstar ruined their own game, don't promise heists in a trailer for the game before it releases and then tell us we have to wait until they decide it in a DLC. you make it extremely hard to earn RP and money people resort to hacking. Doing a 11 minute mission earning 5-10k at a time with only 3k rp at the most is too time consuming. Its 2014 and a major part of this game is missing. Im playing the next gen console i could careless about GTA V

i agree with you because its stupid that they haven't even brought heists out in this game which are the thing that everyone was most looking forward to......no wonder everyone is hacking we want to have fun on a game and not do the same stuff everyday also instead of bringing rubbish DLC like Beach bum out they could bring out a decent one

Hacking will be in any game. Why are you making it an excuse? With or without heists, there would be hacking. Hell, with heists it would be even worse. Rockstar didn't ruin their game. They came out with one of the best GTAs I've ever played. Good you don't play GTA anymore. You guys were probably one of the hackers and now that you can't do it anymore you quit. No on will miss you.

how are you going to tell me what i was? i didn't hack I'm level 114 legit. Don't get but hurt because you disagree its a matter of opinion.

And this is a really good game the fact is its the online part thats a disaster. Don't make excuses for a company who wouldn't piss on fire to put you out they don't care about you.

And the end of your comment was extremely uncalled for and you're a big part of why the world is full of rude people who dont understand an opinion.

Get some help because you need it.

He never told you what you were, only said it's most likely that you were one of the hackers, because it's true. You're most likely one of the people who either hacked to get the money, or had hacked money and lost it. If you weren't you'd most likely be happier with the fact that everyone else will have to play more legit, just like you.

I agree with signed, the lack of a feature from a trailer in the actual game is no excuse for hacking. It was never promised for release, I don't see what people are angry about.

Also, it's ironic that you said that the end of his comment was uncalled for. So was yours.

Something else that's ironic is that you said "How are you going to tell me what I was?" which, already is a misinterpretation of what he said; And then went on to state that Rockstar doesn't care about him. That's hypocrisy at it's finest.

Nahh I feel like there taking away money from actual legit players rather than the cheaters.

Yeah they need to do their job better

I am pretty sure they are taking away legit money to.

They did. I was left with no money after having over 5 million legit

Wow, that's outrageous. Was it from sharkcards, like in game money? That would be awful if they did that...
