PS4 users account for 10 per cent of all Twitch streaming

PS4 users broadcasting directly from their consoles make up 10 per cent of all streaming on Twitch TV.

The video game streaming service has seen a significant rise in users since the console's US debut on November 15, the firm has said.

"As testament to the growing appeal of live broadcasting video game content, the amount of broadcasters on Twitch has grown from around 600,000 in October to more than 700,000 in November," said Twitch's VP of marketing, Matthew DiPietro.

"In addition to more than 100K new broadcasters signing up since the launch of PlayStation 4, PS4 owners make up ten percent of all content on Twitch based on minutes broadcast," he added.

Twitch streaming is an integrated feature of the PS4, allowing users to stream gameplay footage to online viewers or watch others' streams all directly from their console.

Ustream, a similar service to Twitch, is also integrated into the console. Sony says that PS4 users have made around 800,000 broadcasts on Twitch and Ustream combined, totaling over 20 million minutes - or just over 333,000 hours - of streamed footage.

"Interest in streaming live gameplay has surpassed our wildest expectations," said Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida.

"We're very excited to see gamers embrace live streaming from their PS4 system and we look forward to seeing how PlayStation gamers advance social gaming in the coming years," added Yoshida.

Xbox One live streaming via Twitch suffered a last-minute delay from its planned launch-day deployment.

Microsoft has said it aims to deliver the functionality "during the first part of 2014".

ZENU96 Twitch makes some serious money, i didn't know they make that much.

Twitch is growing so much now

its pretty much the go to stream site now really no competition so they can only keep growing

Pretty much this. I would of much liked if they gave a few more resolution options though, i barely use twitch because of the constant lag

Yes but I love twitch as a whole and think they can become the next big thing like youtube is dying because of google.

I wouldn't quite say that it is dying but people are getting pretty agitated at it, competition is a great thing for us consumers so hopefully twitch can give YouTube a run for its money

Sanctorum Twitch will take over from YouTube soon I think. YouTube keeps getting worse, while Twitch is growing in popularity. Good.

Agreed, YouTube is so pointless, and nobody can stand it. Twitch will soon take over in the next year or two.
