10-year-old scores felony charge through 'Minecraft

4.7
The online building-block game Minecraft is a great tool that can lead to the strengthening of a player's creative and strategic abilities.

For one unfortunate child, though, the game led to something else: a felony charge.

An unidentified 74-year-old grandmother from Lincoln, Neb., received a call from her bank notifying her of suspicious charges on her credit card account. It turns out that the thief was not some random cyber criminal, but rather her 10-year-old grandson. The child had managed to rack up over $800 on the card through Minecraft.

The only way the woman could reverse the charges was to file a police report. When she did so, the boy attracted police officers' suspicion of felony theft. Because of his age, the boy's case will be heard in juvenile court.

While the Xbox Live Marketplace does indeed charge for some additions to the game, such as themes or additional characters and tools, nothing is anywhere near $800. Most items available for purchase run anywhere from $1 to $4.

On the other hand, $800 can buy a lot of pickaxes.

-Jacob Unless he actually found the card himself and entered the details, it's her fault for putting bank details on a 10 yr old's Mine craft account. On the other hand, at ten years old you know how money works, so he obviously just didn't give a **** about what he was doing

She should pay, and make him pay her back. That's bs, it's your grandkid, accept some responsibility don't make your card available.

I wouldn't think that a 10 year old child would be able to pay $800 back to the grandparent in an acceptable amount of time. I agree that she should of took some responsibility though

The Grandma should cancel her credit card and all her accounts with the bank. The banks will only engage in such nonsense if you let them. If you don't like the way they treat you, don't do business with them.

x32 Wow, what did he buy? I suppose he could have purchased aload of accounts?

For xbox so, skin packs and texture packs ?

I wouldn't think that he used multiple accounts for the purchase. He likely just purchased everything available for Minecraft on the marketplace

This is almost surreal, to spend $800 on Minecraft is insane, even when your an idiotic child such as this boy. If that was my grandson, I would have half killed him. I am assuming that the child stole his grandmother's credit card in order to purchase what he did which is even worse.

What on Earth did he buy to rack up an $800 bill on Minecraft?! What could he of possibly bought? Does all the DLC content even add up to $100?

I wasn't ever allowed to use my parents credit card until I was like 14. I don't know why the Grandmother trusted her grandson with something like that. It really is only her fault for not supervising her grandson with the credit card and giving it to him in the first place.
