The Division trailer shows off Snowdrop engine

Ubisoft showed off the engine powering Tom Clancy's The Division in a new trailer at VGX on Saturday.

The Snowdrop Engine behind the PC, PS4, and Xbox One title allows for greater environmental reactivity, from ambient light changes over the passing of a day to individual pieces of glass shattering from a car's headlights. The abandoned New York City setting will also visibly reflect accumulating snow.

Aside from playing customizable avatars, players on tablets can help allies and hinder foes with GPS-enabled drones. Though the open-world shooter was first revealed along with PS4 in February, Xbox One players will receive exclusive content throughout the game's lifetime.

The Division is set for release in the second half of 2014.

I played ghost recon and that was the only tom clancy game i ever played. It is fun to play but nothing too big of a community.

Katsumi I'm really liking the look of Tom Clancy's the Division, the online open world aspect really appeals to me as a gamer. I will most likely be picking this one up for the PS4 or PC on release

This game looks awesome, but what excites me the most is the potential of this engine. I cant wait for some developers to use this engine to make some awesome titles.

Little disappointed this isnt being released for PC, especially since a lot of the barriers in development have been removed between PC Xbox One/PS4. Also considering the core market for MMO games is on the PC. I guess I wouldn't be surprised to see it announced for PC before development ends.
