Sony: 'Less than one percent' of PS4s have issues

4.5
Sony addressed numerous reports of defective PlayStation 4 systems this week, and estimated that the number of damaged consoles is relatively low.

"The number of affected PS4 systems is less than one percent, which represents a very small percentage of total units shipped to date and is within the expected range for a new product introduction," a Sony representative told Engadget. "We understand the frustration of consumers that have had a problem and are working with them and our retail partners to help troubleshoot issues and ensure affected units are exchanged."

Given that several issues were reported to Sony, the hardware manufacturer believes "there isn't a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of PS4 units." The company previously said it is investigating "isolated" PS4 issues and offered troubleshooting steps for players experiencing "blinking blue light" problems.

Dine Ive heard people saying its over 50% good thing its not that would have been horrible.

If 50% of the consoles were defective, they would have had a total recall on all of them.

TywinPosted:

1 percent is over 50k consoles if they sold 5 million. (Which they probably sold more)
That 1 percent might not sound like alot but 50 THOUSAND consoles is alot.

PlN Still one percent is too much for a console of 300+

Hopefully they can resolve these issues quickly. But taking into account the failure rates of other devices it is relatively good.

That would of been worse than the RROD on the Xbox 360 ._.

There have been alot of stories from multiple gaming news providers saying that this was set up by Sony weather that is true or not...

So basically Sony measured the amount of PS4s which failed against their total shipments, which = 0.4% im guessing.
People who are saying its nearer 50% fail rate must be trolls, if a million were sold and 500,000 of them failed I am quite sure that there would be a much more severe backlash. Bear in mind that if their PS4 is fine, people will generally not bother writing something online but rather just play the games. However a large number of people who have the faults will definitely post online on places like Amazon and so the PS4 faults are thus overhyped

LaserShow At least it's not on the same level as the Xbox 360's RROD which is considered the worst hardware failure rate in history of any electronic hardwares. What was it, 30% failure?

It was around that if i remember correctly, glad i didn't buy an Xbox 360 when that was going on

33% in-fact. 1% is laughable as it's that low, laptops have a 22% fail rate, TV'S 8% etc...

The xboxes RROD'ed 1-3 years after being in use, you can't know if the ps4s will break afterwards.
And the 1% is a lie, I guess thats clear.
There's no way that they can get a figure this early of the launch. I can GUARANTEE the "1%" figure is made up...

You are making the assumption that the figure is made up. Without anything to back it up you can't really guarantee anything.

You can't "guarantee" anything. All we can do is either assume it is, or isn't.
