PS4 console problems “within our expectations,” says Sony

4.2
PlayStation 4 has launched in North America and Canada, and while most of the territory is enjoying the experience, some users have reported bricked consoles. As you know, Sony has issued a statement on the matter.

As we reported yesterday IGN was handed the quote by a Sony rep. It reads, “A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.

“There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represents less than .4% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction.”

This statement corrects reports that .04% of the consoles were affected, which we again, reported yesterday. But it’s good to keep this in mind.

We’ll have more from Sony and the launch of PS4 throughout the weekend.

At least they were expecting the problems ahead of time.

Ted- Pretty easy to see all the defect consoles were sent to the taco bell promotion, sucks to be anyone who won.

How do you figure that?
There were over 50k defective PS4's.

Int If they don't fix the problems this could potentially be ps4's downfall?

Yeah, if they don't fix the problems soon many people might transfer to the Xbox One.

You think the Xbox One isn't going to have problems?

Not as bad as the ps4 though

We will have to see. it could be worse from all that we know

Xbox one will have a lot of problems to ... when the xbox 360 came out it was setting on fire at first -.- and had RROD all the time so , obvisouly xbox one will have problems and if not then i will buy one just because they dont have any problems ...

Sony shipped bricked consoles.
So far the worse thing about Xbone is a few broken disc trays.
Xbox Ones disc tray troubles have been proved to have been a result of mishandling during delivery...

Exactly.
So MS can't even be at fault for the faulty disc trays.

Mykhal im sure they can fix the problems

With this many consoles being shipped its bound to have a few cracked eggs in it. Once again if u think this is bad think of xbox 360s launch with the 17% RROD consoles. Its miniscule. cannot wait for the European launch.

.4 percent of consoles were shipped BRICKED, not defective but BRICKED.
RROD can be fixed, BRICKED consoles can't.

I rather get RROD than a bricked console any day of the week.

.4% is 20k+ consoles BTW.

At least the launch wasn't as big of a flop as GTA Online.

I'm hoping that the European launch will be at least a little smoother than the US launch was.. i still expect a fair deal of problems though

Given the hugeness of the launch and how many were pre-ordered, this could of been much worse. It also seems PSN is starting to get back on its feet as well.

Moral of the story is, if you dont want to be put out by niggles or failures, dont get anything day one.

Probably a good thing it wasn't a worldwide release too.
