PS4 launch puts strain on Playstation Network

4.7
Some users are having problems connecting to the PlayStation Network, after Sony noted a "very high volume" on the service following the midnight launch of the PS4. There's no word yet as to when these issues are likely to clear up.

With hundred of thousands of new consoles in the wild, and a significant 308MB firmware patch to download, it's perhaps unsurprising to see issues at this stage.

Sony said it thanks users for their patience, and through its Ask PlayStation account asked them to "please sit tight" for the time being. That account directs people to a PlayStation Forum thread for further updates, and we'll be keeping an eye on how things develop too.

Sadly this will happen to the Xbox ONE as well so I gotta get a single player game on release date.

-CP Sony's network is not strong, and we already knew that.

This is probably why PSN was down for almost a month 3 years ago.

Everybody knew this was going to happen. If it happened to GTA Online, then the PS4 and Xbox One are definitely going to have it as well.

I think they should have added Playstation + back, when PS3 first came out! Maybe, then, we might would have had, some better PSN.

While this would be expected on both consoles. The impact will be greater on the PS4 simply because Sony is lacking in quality and quantity when it comes to their network. They don't have the finances to expand it. This is the main reason why I chose to go with the Xbox One first and maybe the PS4 later.

The problems have yet to come, just wait till you decide you want to download a game or update one. It will be just like updating or downloading one on the PS3.

I don't see why the new consoles would be coming out on Friday, why not Saturday so people could wait in line at midnight on Friday and not Thrusday night.

Well this is pretty obvious.

I'm an Xbox fan.
This is to be expected though, nobody should hate on Sony for this.
This will happen to the Xbox One too. 99% sure of it.

This is not Sony's fault at all. Like Mark said every console that has a huge release is going to have problems due to the high volume of people. It will easy out.
