PS4 teardown video shows what's under the hood

There are some people who get all hot and bothered at the sight of processors, heatsinks and disc drives in the raw. If you fit into this category, you might want to prepare a cold shower.

This video, courtesy of Wired, shows the first 'teardown' of the PlayStation 4, showing all its inner workings.

This isn't any amateur teardown where some knob pre-orders a PS4 and forces it open with a sledgehammer, though. This is the real deal.

The video is hosted by Sony engineering director Yasuhiro Ootori, who knows the console inside-out. There's no speculation or "I wonder if this is the RAM" rubbish here - everything Ootori-san says is 100 per cent fact.

In August, when Sony announced a PS4 release date of November 15 in the US and November 29 in Europe, the company said more than one million PS4 pre-orders had been placed worldwide.

ZENU96 That's a lot of parts for a console, really cool that it almost has the same capabilities as a pc.


A console is pretty much a compacted PC.. It still requires all of the same components (power supply, graphics card, processor, RAM etc.)


A overpriced, compact, subpar PC if anything.

-Semtex I find it strange how no one has actually commented on what he said. You can take put the 500GB hard drive and replace it with any commercial hard drive of your choise!

Now I'm an xbox fan mainly becasue of halo!!!

But I think the ps4 right here, much sexyer and much more productive.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to do that with the Xbox. With the unlimited cloud storage.


You can switch out HDD's on the Xbone.
You just have to know what you're doing.

So what you said isn't exclusive to the PS4.

Yes, I know.
I was just saying that the average gamer wouldn't want or need to take it apart.

Lia It looks really nice and seems quite easy to take it apart, if you ever feel the need to do such a thing.


i was thinking the same thing it seems like you take out about 8 screws and its fully apart.

Both consoles look great I like the controllers to.

It's a lot like the inside of the PS3 Slim, but a bit more streamlined. I look forward to fixing them in future!
It's very quiet Alaann, a German website has done tests on it and it's virtually silent.
That heatsink looks a good one and the fan is definite improvement with how deep it is
