Microsoft sued over Xbox Live Points

4.7
Microsoft’s Xbox Live Points system is arguably deceptive, where a $10 item will cost 1200 points, where most people think that 100 points = $1. It doesn’t, and Microsoft have now been sued over another “points” issue, which deals with the “leftover points” that members buy. For instance, buying 1600 points, spending 1500 of them on DLC, and then you’re stuck with 100 points which you can’t really buy anything for, and the points are not redeemable. You’re essentially forced to buy more points if you want to spend those last 100 points. Most people never do, and Microsoft basically profits the leftover points.

The class-action lawsuit was filed by Samuel Lassoff, a Philadelphia-based attorney who claims that Microsoft engages in a “scheme to unjustly enrich itself through their fraudulent handling” of his Xbox Live Account, and claims that hundreds of Xbox Live members aren’t getting what they’re paid for, saying, “Microsoft breached that contract by collecting revenues for digital goods and services which were not provided.”.

Microsoft has yet for file a response for the case. The company has been dealing with criticism of the points system for a while, and has said that they might even scrap the whole system and switch to cash purchases. However, there’s no indication that this will happen anytime soon.

They should have something like a 50 point raffle box that gives you a completely random Gamer picture, it wouldn't really be worth it, but it's something to spend points on...

Good. I love to see Microsoft taking some heat for this. I'm personally a huge Xbox fan, but after reading this article do I realize where he is coming from.

i agree with him, i buy something and am stuck with 80 points.

why do i need those?

it also kinda makes me mad that 1600 points are like 20$ shouldn't they be like 15?

@ t9x, yer i see your point, i have like 180 points that i can do nothing with, but i just see it as extra next time i buy some

The only thing that bothers me if being short points like 20-50 points and I have to spend $6.25 just to get what like 70 cents worth a points and for the people who don't have a credit card on Xbox have to go buy a $20 card if something is 800 MSP and they only have 600. If you buy points regularly its not that big of a deal but if you buy points here and there your forced to spend more than what you want. I have 250 points left over right now and I cant even rent a movie because I'm 90 points short so I would have to spend at least 6.25 just to get a movie and then have even more left over points. Pretty stupid

I think this is true, Microsoft gets $20 weather or not you spend it all or not. Most of the time you end up with an amount of points that can't buy anything.
