Command & Conquer cancelled, Victory Games closed

4.6
Command & Conquer has been cancelled and EA has closed developer Victory Games. The cancellation comes via a post on the game's site and the studio closure comes from EA in a statement to Game Informer:

"This does mean that the Victory Games team will be disbanded. Wherever possible, we are working to help these talented people find other opportunities with EA."

The cancellation post says the multiplayer approach to Command & Conquer was its downfall.

"Your feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play," the post reads. "That is why, after much difficult deliberation, we have decided to cease production of this version of the game. Although we deeply respect the great work done by our talented team, ultimately it's about getting you the game you expect and deserve."

Victory and EA will refund all money spent in the alpha, expected to be handled over the next 10 days. EA say it is looking at ways to "get the game back on track." The blog post, attributed to Victory Studios, was not approved by the development team, Command & Conquer's Marketing Manager says on Twitter.

Never played or even heard of this game, this won't affect me.

Thlack Woah.... this game looks pretty cool. Sounds dumb that they canceled it though.

Well chances where that the game wouldn't off made a good profit so they just cancelled it. It makes sense but i personally don't like the decision

What EA actually need to do is find some impassioned people to take over the IP...people who actually give a damn about the making of the game and it's presentation, story and style over those who are focused on stats-from-fads.

They've clearly forgotten to go to the roots of classic games, and the core of those was 'this is something cool, done with wow-factor' rather than 'this is another mechanical repetition-fest glossed over with bits of extra pixels you can buy for money'.

99pennies knowing EA, they noticed that they would not make money from the game so they didnt release it

that is really what any logical company would do.. if you're not going to make money from a product then why would you sell it.

Making money isn't an exclusive concept to EA.

Was loooking forward to this game

Lavish That is honestly sad. I'm surprised since it is under control by EA and EA is making plenty of money to fund it via BF4 sales.

Well chances are that EA didn't really see it as an optimal money making opportunity.

as soon as this new game was announced everyone already told them they didnt want it, they didnt need to waste their money taking it to the alpha stage. Surely they must hate C&C fans. Because theyd have to be living under a rock not to know that we'd happily give them our money for a proper game if theyd actually made it

This is terrible, I grew up playing C&C. :(
