Analyst: Xbox One will outsell PlayStation 4 at launch

4.5
The Xbox One will enjoy higher launch window sales than the PlayStation 4, opines Colin Sebastian of Baird Research.

"While many forecasts still give an edge to Sony/PS4 in North America sales, we continue to expect similar or even slightly higher sales of Xbox One by the end of the launch window," Sebastian told investors.

The conjecture is backed up by data from eBay listings, which shows Xbox One mark-ups 60 percent north of the console's $500 price tag whilst those of PS4 are just a tick lower at roughly 50 percent more than its respective $400 asking price.

The analyst divines the platform holders will collectively move between 5 million and 6 million units globally by the end of the year. The soothsayer also foretells retailers will have a hard time keeping stock on shelves.

"Retailers in our checks indicate there is consumer demand well in excess of supply, as evidenced by fast sell-outs of incremental unit allotments, such as at GameStop," Sebastian noted.

I am personally getting both systems, but I find it amusing how everyone flat out forgets how much Sony screwed peeps over with the PS3. Between missed deadlines, playstation home, the giant hack, the network downtime, no cross-media bar chat system [a personal pet peeve], games running so poorly they had to start rating multi-platform titles with different ratings to point out they wouldn't run as well sometimes at all on the PS3. All companies have missteps, and make mistakes. Without competing systems there would be less innovation and price gouging. A lot of what MS tried to do with the Xbox One originally was comparable to the way things operate on PC and Steam which people are perfectly happy with. As for the 180 the did on different features and issues people had, isn't that what you want? A company that will take your complaints and address them as opposed to sticking by what they perceived as a positive direction and just cramming it down your throat? At the end of the day pick the console with the exclusives and community and features you like, not do to the power, because if you want that you need to be building a PC, then you can have everything your way and not get so upset when a company build their console the way they want to for their business model. I am sure you'll respond with fan boy this and that, but I'll say it just the same, I buy my games new, and consoles is online 24/7, and I don't sell, trade, or loan out shit (people are irresponsible). So MS was doing nothing to the likes of me let alone F'ing me in the A. If anything them changing their DRM and always online took away from my experience. Moral of the story, you can't make everyone happy with one product. Variety is the spice of life, so just chill enjoy your platform of choice and quit being a douche.

ZENU96 I still believe that both consoles are really good it's just sony is going to sell more console because it's $100 cheaper.

Don't think that's true, majority favors Xbox over Playstation

DemonSurfer Everyone i know is getting PS4 tbh.The only reason 360 sold was a) it was cheap and b)it was easy to flash.Don't believe everything you read, especially on biased sites ;)
PS4 definately has a better games line up overall and Microsoft are obviously mainly targeting America as that's the only place 360 is more popular ... the country where they play "Football" with your hands... says alot.

If anything, your comment is biased. You're basing your opinion off of your friends alone. I don't see why you are hating on the Xbox One, just because it has a different marketing platform doesn't mean it sucks or is any better than the PS4. It is down to you and your opinion alone because it will be you who plays the console.

Me and all my friends are getting the PS4, all except 1 who thinks the Xbox one will be better, but the specs have proven the PS4 to be greater, and I dont use all these apps to watch these on the 360 because I have a TV, which I dont watch because I use my console for gaming, yes its a personal opinion but the majority of people I know are getting the PS4 so from my perspective the PS4 is selling more
Same here. I surveyed my Video Game Design class and all of them said the PS4 was the better console but 1. That one guy is getting an Xbox One and he thinks Saints row 4 is better than GTA V. Makes me think what kind of people actually buy the Xbox One.

just cus he has a preference in a certain game doesn't make him diff..if he feels he thinks Saints Row 4 is better than GTA in his eyes..than so be it..that's his opinion on what he likes..Makes me think what kind of people actually believe everyone has the same taste

All you people are talking about specs, when you don't realize that the specs on consoles make no difference. Even the PS4 or Xbox One had 16GB of RAM, it would not change how the game is in any way (unless it is console specific). Say you bought a copy of CoD Ghosts for your upgraded Xbox with 32GB of RAM, and expected a lot of things to be better, but in theory, nothing will change. It is a game designed for both the One and PS4. It won't change how many players are in the game or how it looks. It has already been optimized.

You don't know what your talking about.

The PS4 wins in the raw performance ie, Tflops but the Xbox has dedicated hardware that isn't included & cant be counted, so 1.3 Tflop's with dedicated hardware that does a hell of a lot for free on the system, vs PS4 1.8 Tflop's that's has no dedicated hardware to take tasks of the CPU or GPU.

Also with RAM;

The PS4 Ram has a faster overall clock speed, but higher latency (only affects the CPU) the Xbox one has lower clock speed but a lot lower latency. (great for the CPU)

Also the PS4 can't read & write at the same time, where the Xbox one can.

"The PS4's GPU can read/write to it's 8GB of GDDR5 at 176 GB/sec only

The ONES GPU can read/write it's 8GB of DDR3 at 68 GB/Sec
The ONES GPU can read/write it's 32MB SRam frame buffer at 102GB/sec
The ONES GPU can read/write to its 4 Move engines at 25.6 GB/Sec

The ONE GPU can read/write to all of the above simultaneously"

Also the PS4 uses 3.5GB Ram for the OS, the Xbox uses 3GBS (& maybe reduced to 2GBs)

Also the Xbox has advantages in the Audio department, can have double the audio assets ingame (voices, sound effect eg.) & also has the advantage in dedicated hardware for tiled resources. The PS4 has to use the software approach to do this, again this uses CPU & GPU resources, where the Xbox its free.

There are a lot more things the Xbox one has dedicated hardware for.

The could is being used for games that want to do AI as an example in the distance or off screen.

example;
We have a game that has hundreds of AI fighting in the distance, this can be done on the Cloud & when we get closer the system takes over for the processing of AI, this example is how the new Halo is going to use the Cloud & be an always online game.

Basically the Cloud is used for stuff that isn't indirect contact/vicinity to the player/players, so if the PS4 wants to render huge battles in the distance it has to use the CPU/GPU, where the Xbox one gets it free. (or the price of a data packet, ie, internet bandwidth)

So overall its not just a clean & dry situation here, each console has its advantages, but overall there round about the same.

B*tch !
That was copied and pasted, but it's all correct...

OOOOORRRR, you could just read all the other articles by the GAME PRODUCERS (neutral parties who dont really give a shit about either system) and how they explain how basically each console is basically identical. They both let them create whatever the hell they want now. There are virtually no limits at this point. So going by that, it all depends on 3 things. 1)do you want to gamble on how the Kinect could possibly be a core part of future gaming. 2)Do you want to pay the extra hundred for the better xbox servers. 3) What are your friends getting.

Bankshot TBH I think ps4 is going to end up like PS3.... Mods

If they don't change the update system for it then you can bet your ass on it. And especially with how big the modding community is compared to when the 360 and ps3 it wont take long. I honestly don't care cause I apparently "Ruin the games for regular players by modding MY stats." Ummm, That doesn't affect anyone but me and its not like me having that last level gun will give me an advantage. If so I say we ban people that no life the game. They hurt the community more than me cause I suck **** at the game. Just voicing my opinion and I am fine if you want to hate at it.

So, what you're saying is to ban people that play the game legit and are actually good at it, and let people like you that "suck" and cheat roam freely with no consequences?

Yup, seems legit.
I know right. I don't mind 'cool' modders but I absolutely dispize modders who absolutely smash the gaming experience with miniguns that fire RPG's...

boolad137 Because of the constant competition between both microsoft and sony, I think they are both going to sell equally high amounts.

That is very unlikely in my opinion, I think PS4 will outsell the xbox, I guess we just gonna have to wait and see.
This right here, Is probably THE dumbest post I've ever read on TTG. Congratulations
Very unlikely? The pre orders are neck on neck and the Xbox is starting to overtake the PS4. Not bad for a console that's being sold in nearly 4 times as less countries as the PS4.
