Xbox One party chat accommodates eight 'at launch'

4.5
Xbox One will limit the number of party chat participants to eight at a time, Microsoft has confirmed.

"At launch, up to eight people will be able to join a Party Chat at a time on Xbox One," a spokesperson told Game Informer.

This is the same limitation placed on Xbox 360 and, as Sony has recently confirmed, is also identical to the party chat limit on PS4.

That Microsoft stipulates that the eight-person limit is 'at launch' could suggest a possible party size increase at a later date, but for the time being this remains conjecture.

Xbox One players will not be able to voice chat with Xbox 360 players due to technical differences, but profiles on each console will be visible to the other, and users will be able to exchange written messages between the two systems.

Microsoft released a sound comparison between Xbox One and Xbox 360 voice chat to demonstrate the improved quality on the new console, which uses Skype tech for its voice communication.

daRealRush Why would Microsoft, want to raise the limit from 8, to a higher number in a later date. I mean, I like the idea, but I think having 8 people in a party is enough!

Meh I think it needs to be higher.

As far as just talking 8 is good.

Exactly, 8 people is good! We don't need to have more!

Why is everyone complaining about the amount of people in the party. Yeah it's annoying but that's why you can kick people and make it invite only. The people you're talking with also matter so if everyone's calm and the party is good, then you can have the ability to have more.

Sure it's not a big feature, but it helps out certain people.

Interesting. I am getting the PS4 first but the xbox one is sounding more and more enticing.

-Hardwell Omg really something they both agree on :) #wow

But then Microsoft said only 8 at launch ... so they will probably make it 10 to beat sony :/ even though 8 people is enough anyway

I think even 4 is overcrowded and rather than push the number of voice spammers higher, just increase the overall voice codec quality, I see no technical reason why we cannot have 44100hz 16bit mono for party chat in all seriousness.
It's not as simply as pressing a button and the quality improves. If you want to sound intelligent, make an intelligent post...

Texans I wonder if xbox one can talk to people on skype on PC???

This would be such a useful feature for me. With this I could play PC games while I Skype with my friends on Xbox, I hope Microsoft do have this feature available.
I believe you can otherwise I believe they wouldn't of implemented it...
