Grand Theft Auto 5 takes top spot on Xbox Live

Grand Theft Auto 5 has beaten Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for the title of most-played game on Xbox 360, according to a recent blog post by Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson.

Note that this doesn't necessarily mean more people are playing GTA Online, the multiplayer component of GTA 5, as Major Nelson's data tracks how many unique users are signed onto Xbox Live while playing a game, regardless of whether or not they're using online features.

Not everyone has moved onto the newest of the new though, as the top ten list also includes GTA 4, as well as Modern Warfare 3 and the original Black Ops. Meanwhile, Minecraft is still holding onto third, surrounded by guns, criminals and sports.

I am not surprised that GTA V took the number one spot. It was perhaps the most anticipated game in the last few years. People love Grand Theft Auto, the games are always extremely enjoyable. It will be interesting to see how Call of Duty: Ghosts fairs against GTA V, and then how Battlefield 4 does.

Even with the difficulties and problems Rockstar are having to deal with, Ghosts still wont overtake.


If Ghost turns out to be one of the best COD's, I think Rockstar will get a run for their money and it will be a true competitor.

If Ghost is a flop, than Rockstar will have nothing to worry about.

The problems will be over soon enough. Grand Theft Auto V has broken five world records now. It is going to stay #1.

This isn't one bit of surprise. Although the game is good, it is so overhyped even by people who don't play Xbox, PS3, or video games at all.

Katsumi I have to say that Grand Theft Auto 5 deserves taking the top spot on Xbox Live. I have played it a fair bit and have to say that it's a great game.


It truly is, I would buy the game just for trevor

Call of duty is still a huge game despite it loosing popularity. It will likely die down in the coming years if they fail to innovate though


Agreed they are coming up with horrible ideas.
