Valve unveils prototype Steam Box specs

4.6
Valve Software has plans to ship 300 prototype Steam Box machines to eager testers by the end of 2013. This morning the company revealed the hardware to be included within these computers:
The 300 prototype units will ship with the following components:
GPU: some units with NVidia Titan, some GTX780, some GTX760, and some GTX660
CPU: some boxes with Intel : i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3
RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB DDR5 (GPU)
Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD
Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold
Dimensions: approx. 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 in high
Instead of shipping top-of-the-line technology to each tester, Valve has opted to ship a variety of configurations. This allows the company a more accurate view of how Steam Box will perform in the hands of the public, as not every player will have access to the latest, greatest hardware. However, if you grow tired of how your Steam Box performs, Valve claims that each of these prototypes is fully upgradeable using relatively common components.

Lavish Although my computer has the same CPU, GPU, and Ram witheven better storage and power supply, i will still be purchasing the steam box to see what it is like.

I want to get one to try it out too. I probably will end up getting it.

Brigand I like how they offer different types of systems.
Great variety.

I agree with that. Also, the specs aren't bad.

The only cool thing is the different shapes

-Skillz I cant't wait to get my hands on one!!

Wonder when it will be released, I might buy one depending on the price.

Seeming that testers will be getting it by the end of 2013 i could see it being released some time in late 2014. Hopefully it isn't released any later then that

I doubt I will ever end up getting the Steambox, even though it has some great potential.

I could see myself purchasing the steam box. I am a fan of consoles and it honestly looks great from what i have seen

Boobson I have started doing a lot more PC gaming and I'm starting to like it a lot better than console, I see PC gaming becoming very popular and used by a lot more in the future.

This steam box looks awesome though, the specs are amazing.

I see it going up but with all the upgrades next-gen's consoles will have, the tide is far from turning

I totally agree, I don't think PC gaming will ever become the "thing" to do. Consoles have way more players

If it wasn't for PC gaming, there would be no consoles.
There are more people with PC's than there are with consoles.

Once the steam box dumbs down the graphics like consoles has done, I think that consoles have true competition.

"I don't think PC gaming will ever become the "thing" to do" - Seriously? It is already the "thing" to do for millions. Just because you decide to sit on your ass playing Xblob with ya m8's and you can't actually imagine yourself being a PC gamer, doesn't mean that it's not already the "thing" to do.

Lmao chill out dude. It's a proven fact that consoles have WAY more players then Pc. You're just making yourself sound like anidiot by saying that.
