Grand Theft Auto Online Servers Struggle Under Strain

4.5
Well, it had to be expected. Although some have managed to get into GTA Online without issue and are playing it lag-free, others are needing to wait to get into a server, with some having to hold out for over twenty minutes.

It had seemed that the Grand Theft Auto Online launch would be relatively struggle-free, but that’s turned out not to be entirely true. Fans are stuck at the launching screen and are taking to Twitter to complain.

In all fairness, there are very few online launches that manage to go off without a hitch, although Rockstar had been confident that they’d be able to deal with demand.

On the other side of the console war, there are people concerned that the 360 got the patch before PS3 players. Rockstar tweeted from the official GTA account that the timing of the patch was entirely down to Microsoft and Sony, so it doesn’t seem there’s any mystery to be found here. Still, some are angry that they can’t… well… sit watching the launching screen.

If you’d planned on playing Grand Theft Auto Online over the next few days, it might be worth adding a little extra time while server issues are sorted out.

Woobie Struggle is an understatement, I have been trying to connect for a solid 4 hours now. That's just sad.

I know it sucks, but even though GTA was so hyped, their was still WAY more people than expected.

Aruss94 Seriously? You had an original date set in the spring. then delayed nack to the fall. then you put a delay on the multiplayer. and you still manage to mess it up. that's bs. I really don't care about what other games had to deal with (aka the sims) i know thats worse. but the fact that you took all this time to prepare for a perfect launch and you can't even get online straight. People with half a brain could have predicted the servers were gonna overload and have bugs. Somehow you still didn't realize. okay im done. i'm gonna keep tyring to play lol
servers get overloaded bro. you think that 4-5M people logging into the online at once wont cause problems?
It's still their fault. They should have prepared for it.
they did prepare for it. they are stress testing their servers. agh stupid people erk me man.

they didn't prepare for it. hence why the servers are messed up.

Rockstar clearly said they did not expect the sales to reach that number so quickly and has been working around the clock buying and adding new servers to accommodate.

"Rockstar Games said it is buying and installing new servers "around the clock" to compensate for "unanticipated" pressure, as millions of GTA 5 fans get ready to log into the online world."

Servers aren't "Plug and Play".

you have no idea what you're talking about do you? Rockstar even said that there were going to be day 1 problems. and of course they are trying to fix these issues. you try hosting a bunch of servers with 5-6m people logging in at once. see if your sh*t doesn't work right.
