Infinity Ward responds to GTA 5 mocking CoD - "it's pretty cool"

There's an advert for "Righteous Slaughter VII: The Art of Contemporary Killing" to find on GTA 5's in-game internet. Created by "Misfire Games", it's described as "a first-person shooter like no other (except for the Righteous Slaughter 6 which was released 3 months ago)."

The blurb proceeds in fairly withering style. "Insurgents are killing orphans. They have nerve toxin and a nuke. You're flashing back a lot telling a dramatic story cobbled together from assorted generic multiplayer levels so we could get the game made in time." The multiplayer, meanwhile, allows you to "purchase upgrades so that you can destroy those with more skill and less money than you - just like in real life."

So what does Infinity Ward, developer of Modern Warfare 2 and the forthcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts, think of all this?

"I definitely laugh at it," community manager Tina Palacios told OXM at a preview event. "I think it's funny that they mentioned us - cheers to them, that's pretty cool."

She declined to comment at length on Rockstar's critique, observing that it's not Infinity Ward's lot to make decisions about how the Call of Duty franchise at large is sold or presented. "I've been in Europe these past two weeks so I've not got to play GTA 5 myself, but... From a development standpoint? We just enjoy games. And I know it's funny to have to say that, but we really do - it's our job to make them and we like playing them, so...

"We don't really see it from a publisher's perspective when we make a game, whether it's going to sell and so on, we just focus on whether we're having fun playing it, because if not we're going to change it. We just focus on the enjoyment factor rather than anything else."

The sniping should serve as a bit of additional publicity for Infinity Ward, if nothing else. "When I see the GTA shout-outs, it's kind of like seeing your game in South Park, it's pretty cool," said Palacios. "I got a call from my mom saying that on the news she heard that Call of Duty's mentioned in Grand Theft Auto, because she only knows Call of Duty, GTA and FIFA. So it's pretty cool!"

I agree Rockstar spend time on their game and IW yeah they may make $500million for their work thats because all the sheep carry on playing COD.


Its sad that people can only blame CoD sales on sheep.

The same exact thing could be said about every other game (where only the fanboys would defend it.) I mean, if a person defends something, they are likely fans, no? Not sure why 'fanboy' is used as a type of insult nowadays (even if you claim you are not, many people still do it.) Battlefield, GTA, Halo, Killzone, etc., all have "fanboys" that defend them. I personal like Call of Duty. In my opinion, they consistently deliver an enjoyable experience. They always keep me entertained for months. No other game seems to do that for me anymore. Halo used to, but it's just not my style anymore. I don't mind people stating their opinion, but it gets to me when people state them like they are a fact (the sheep comment from Pearity.)


The difference is this I was stating my opinion that all the "sheep" carry on buying and Playing COD After moaning about it saying oh its the same old thing, yet they still buy the damn game, at the end of the day every game is going to have its own haters and "fanboys" I have played every CoD and yes it is repetitive but I still enjoy playing them. But it seems to be that whenever someone states an opinion on the site it goes sour and everyone seems to jump down your throat.


Sorry sir, but the sheep would be saying this is a totally new CoD and is going to be the best game evar. A sheep wouldn't complain about it being the same game then buy it.


Seriously?, the amount of people who complain about the game but go out and buy it anyways you have never seen it happen? The amount of people I have seen who have complained about CoD and other franchises and still buy the game is baffling yet I still stand by what I said as an opinion and will continue to call them sheep. the sad truth is, ppl complain about call of duty because it is a yearly game and they stick to what the vast majority of ppl want. and that is how the game is set up currently, and as been for basically 10 years. if you look at gta 4 to gta 5, it is identical to the improvements of call of duty. they both make some changes but it is same concept and everything. so why arent ppl complaining that gta4 is same as gta5? bc there was like a 5 year gap between releases. if call of duty did that, ppl would go insane for it.


tl;dr.
IW is better then gayarc and its crap staff. R* is better then them both and yes that is how cod is basically stupid anymore gta5 was kinda dead on with mocking them.

Same thing I was thinking, at least COD sold camo's and maps, rockstar is selling in game cash lol..


Yes pointless stuff which does nothing to your stats or anything.. Much rather pay for in game money than map's/ camo's

Black Ops 2 was the last cod for me, and im not even buying, it, i'll play it round my mates house but im, not wasting 40 for cod anymore, im stocking to battlefield, fifa and GTA they nare the best games this year tbh
