Xbox One cycle more than 10 years, says Harrison

Xbox boss Phil Harrison has confirmed that Xbox One’s cycle will last more than a decade, speaking in the first session at this year’s Eurogamer Expo today.

Harrison confirmed Xbox One is on a “more than ten-year journey.” The console releases on November 22.

After dropping new Kinect details, the Microsoft exec also showed off Xbox One’s Upload Studio, which allows users to record, trim, record additional footage and voice-over for clips using Kinect, and upload and share with whoever they wish. If you see a game you like the look of on someone else’s upload, you can easily pop over to the appropriate game-page and get buying.

“We think this is a powerful virality tool,” said Harrison. Users will be able to apply to become “anchor tenants” of the Xbox One upload channel.

ID@Xbox, Xbox One’s indie development programme, was also featured in the talk.

Harrison reiterated that Xbox One will launch with 23 games, 11 of which are billion-dollar franchises.

Harrison’s presentation is the first in a series of live sessions at Eurogamer Expo this week.

They're going to have to release a new console in the next couple of years to catch up on the specs of the new games...

i think we'll see a new console in 6-7 years and went everything goes digital companies like Apple Google Amazon might even have a games console

Mentalist I'm pretty sure not every console is going to last that long, my first xbox only lasted for 2 years...


But that was the Xbox 360(or original xbox) this is new and companies are smarter

Me neither, I just think they will last just as long as the 360's.

I'm pretty sure not every console is going to last that long, my first xbox only lasted for 2 years...

Xbox 360 capabilities were no match to the counterpart computer gaming market. The GPU could not handle what a PC could, with the X1 they are finally catching up but with the many advancements for the computer side of things, in 5 or maybe less the PC will have doubled maybe even quad-rippled the quality, it will also make the quality of games suffer, they make their games for consoles then port them to computer lowering the overall standard for the industry.

If the cloud is really as powerful as they say it is than this is probably a realistic statement.

The Xbox 360 lasted 10 years and it was a lot less powerful and had less potential than the Xbox One.
