GTA V copies sold early, Rockstar 'investigating'

Copies of Grand Theft Auto V have been shipped to gamers this weekend, breaking Rockstar's September 17 street date.

The early copies were allegedly shipped by online retail giant Amazon, according to pictures of the game that have been posted online on Saturday.

It is not unusual for Amazon to ship games just ahead of their release dates to ensure their arrival on the release date itself. In this case, copies of GTA V appear to have turned up in customers' mailboxes four days early.

Rockstar has said it's investigating. "We are in the process of investigating early 'sales' to determine how and why that is occurring," the publisher told Games Industry.

Sony confirmed earlier today that pre-loading of the PS3 Grand Theft Auto 5 through the PlayStation Network has been delayed until September 16.

The delay follows the leak of GTA 5 details through a PlayStation Store error. In August gamers who pre-ordered the game via the EU PlayStation Store were apparently accidentally given access to files that revealed game details, which were inevitably posted online.

Rockstar has confirmed a US and European GTA 5 release date of September 17 on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game will launch in Japan on October 10.

ohSmexeh In my opinion it ruins it some people getting it early.
As they then post videos etc all over the internet, ruining it for everyone else.
So i can see exactly where rockstar are coming from.

True but in order to find these videos you need to click on them or search for them so you are not exactly being forced. I understand what you mean but its a big game there will always be someone willing to leak it.

Yes they can... I been playing on legit copy, no livestreaming etc and got console banned and received an email saying that I have broken the rule of playing the game early on xbl in their ToS

I can see why Rockstar are looking into it, wouldn't you if you set a date to release something and next minute thousands have it a few days before. I would be quite cheesed off as well

Big deal they shipped a couple of copies early it is bound to happen. Its only 15 hours for me now and I will have my copy.

You all know it wont be online till the first of October....
Also I don't see why its a big deal, the can take down all the gameplay/livestreams and there is no multiplayer like a lot of people said so not a massive deal....
