Microsoft Banning Consoles For GTA V Leaks

4.6
An Xbox 360 gamer has managed to get hold of a copy of Grand Theft Auto V before its official release date and has been posting Vine videos with footage from the game, which have spread to NeoGAF.

One of the videos contained his gamertag and Microsoft have quickly dealt a blow and have banned his entire console from Xbox Live, meaning he’ll have to buy a new one.

The Rockstar policy on posting copyrighted material from its games is very clear:

Pre-Release Footage: No pre-release leaked footage of any kind: Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained. This includes “early unboxing” videos.

Obviously we will not be linking to the videos since they could be considered to contain spoilers, but what do you think of the swift wielding of the ban hammer? Has justice been dealt or is it overkill from Rockstar and Microsoft?

xIVIcMuFFiiNx Honestly if he was playing a copy that he legitimately purchased and was somehow able to get a hold of it early then he shouldn't have been banned. He didn't sign any agreement saying he couldn't play it early or show footage of it.

But if he's playing a ripped copy then he deserves to get banned; everybody knows that if you're going to play a game early, especially one that's popular, you play that game offline with and offline account. If you're stupid enough to play it online with your main account well then I'm sorry but you deserve to get banned.

But thats the point I am trying to say if he has bought a legitimate copy he should be able to play online early its not his fault it is the retailers fault but if he did download it illegally then he deserves to be banned yeah but as I will point out for the last time if he bought it legitimatley then the companies should not be able to do this. Microsoft sure does use the Ban Hammer a lot.

They maybe shouldn't of banned his xbox. That's kinda too far. This is what I think; The videos are still up. Rockstar doesn't like it. They should of sent him a message of some sort, because I doubt he's looking into the policies of Rockstar when he has a copy of GTA V to play. Too harsh of a punishment. Now you know he's just going to leave out his gamertag, so I think Rockstar might of made it worse. And besides, he's allowed to own the game early. Microsoft shouldn't of banned his account, Rockstar should of just banned him from GTA V or something.

Dr-J Lmao, people should play offline, MS can't tell.

Wouldn't it still come up in your recent game history though?

Well, if people keep their consoles offline until the game is actually released i could see them getting away with it. Either that or playing on a permanently offline console

I get all the games a couple days early to test, I play them offline, but go back online to play a already released game and never had any problems. Hell even accidentaly left internet connected while playing Diablo III but didn't even try connecting online, and I was fine.

As others have said and I am going to reiterate if you play the game offline you will have no problem but connect to online and your pretty much screwed but in all honesty In my opinion he shouldent even been banned if it is a legit copy of the game that the person has bought and got it early it is the Retailers fault NOT the gamers things like this really annoy me.

I don't think he got banned for playing the game (if it was a legit copy) he got banned for leaking it. R* has already said if people get the game early from retailers they can play it without being banned.
