Microsoft Banning Consoles For GTA V Leaks

4.6
An Xbox 360 gamer has managed to get hold of a copy of Grand Theft Auto V before its official release date and has been posting Vine videos with footage from the game, which have spread to NeoGAF.

One of the videos contained his gamertag and Microsoft have quickly dealt a blow and have banned his entire console from Xbox Live, meaning he’ll have to buy a new one.

The Rockstar policy on posting copyrighted material from its games is very clear:

Pre-Release Footage: No pre-release leaked footage of any kind: Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained. This includes “early unboxing” videos.

Obviously we will not be linking to the videos since they could be considered to contain spoilers, but what do you think of the swift wielding of the ban hammer? Has justice been dealt or is it overkill from Rockstar and Microsoft?

They should get banned because they are ruining the tension and us wanting the game by putting spoilers up!

I understand that they don't want spoilers shown and that's understandable cause I wouldn't want a game I spent 1000's of hours on to be spoiled 5 days before the release.

For the console ban I think maybe that was a little far.. I would understand a console ban till the 17th but I think they took it a little far there.

I don't think it's overkill at-all.
It's taken Rockstar what, 5 years to make GTAV?
Then some little moron get's his hands on it early and goes about leaking content of the game before its release.

Not cool.

-Ben- Well they have every right to ban you for playing it early if its pirated or whatever but what if players just get the game delivered a day early? Thats a bit unfair to console ban them for a shops postage timings

They are not getting banned because they have the game but because they are posting gameplay of it when its not even release yet.
