iPhone 5S and 5C models confirmed

4.6
Apple has unveiled the iPhone 5S and its entry-level companion, the iPhone 5C.

The phone will come in white, black and gold variants, machined out of high-grade aluminum.

Inside will be the new 64-bit A7 chip, which Apple boss Tim Cook called "a huge leap forward", noting graphics and CPU speeds that are "twice as fast". It will be the world's first 64-bit smartphone.

Tim cook called the 5S "the most forward-thinking phone we've ever created".

The iPhone 5S will also house a second chip called the M7 - a 'motion co-processor' that will track motion data via an accelerometer, gyroscope and compass. This, Apple said, would "enable a new generation of health and fitness apps", which will plug in via a new CoreMotion API.

Apple confirmed that the new phone will feature a 'Touch ID' feature, which reads your fingerprints for phone security. The touch sensor is built into the Home button, and its finger-reading capabilities have been 'built deeply into iOS 7'.

The fingerprint-reading tech can be used to replace the current passcode-protected lock screen, but it can also be used to authorise iTunes purchases.

A new camera on the phone will pack new stabilisation features to sharpen objects or people in motion, and a new 'True Tone' flash will help pictures retain more true-to-life colours. A new Burst Mode will take a rapid succession of pictures to capture action shots. The camera can also shoot video at 120fps for smooth slow-motion playback.

As for battery life, the firm claims 10 hours of 3G talk time, and around 250 hours of standby life, 10 hours of LTE web browsing and 40 hours of music playback.

The iPhone 5S will be offered in three versions: 16GB for $199, 32GB for $299, and 64GB for $399, all with a two-year contract. Cases will be offered at $39 each.

As rumoured, Apple has also confirmed a new entry level iPhone called the iPhone 5C.

The device will come in two SKUs, 16 and 32GB versions, costing $99 and $199 respectively with a two-year contract.

The device will be powered by an A6 CPU core, throwing pixels onto a 4-inch retina display.

The new colourful hard-coated polycarbonate casing with house an 8MP camera with 3x video zoom, LTE chips - up to 100Mbps download speeds - and 2.4/5GHz wifi, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Blue, yellow, red, green and white were among the colours shown at the presentation.

New cases for the phone will be released for $29 each.

I would have to get the iPhone 5c in blue.
Its so nice but then again its a bit pointless making two versions there just trying to make more money.

These models of the phone are just to make some extra cash for limited work in my opinion, all they ever really do is upgrade memory and the camera...

Lia It really doesn't look that impressive, maybe it's just me :L

I don't get why phone companies update their next gen phones with barely any improvements. All they want is more and more money because they know people will always want the "new best thing."

yeah i agree its not even that good other Phones like HTC are better.

I agree that the HTC is better than the iPhone but im stuck with my iPhone 4 until april next year I wish they would bring a brand new phone out and not tweak it here and there an expect people to pay 499 GBP Straight out annoys me.

They have been doing it for an extremely long time yet people continue to buy the new model just because it is 'new'
