Xbox One Illumiroom projector too expensive for home use

4.6
Xbox One’s Illumiroom projector concept would see your living room plastered with imagery to heighten your immersion in a game. Now, Microsoft’s Albert Penello has said that the tech is now for research purposes only, as it’s too costly to bring to the home market.

If you’re a bit like ‘Illumi-what-now-huh?’, then you can watch this showcase demo of what the projections would have looked like below.

The tech was said to be housed within Xbox One’s Kinect sensor as standard but now, speaking with AusGamers, Xbox One head of product planning Albert Penello has said it’s unlikely to head to your home.

He explained, “I wouldn’t expect you’ll see that. It’s really super-neat if you’re in the lab and you’ve got Microsoft money and you could totally set up this awesome lab, but… we looked at it, but for an average customer it’s, like, thousands of dollars [for the set up].”

Do you feel this is a big loss for the console? Let us know below.

We, my friends, are in the future! I can see this evolving to wall projection rather than using monitors. Oh my, that's freaky as hell. I wonder how it would do with racing games that have a cockpit view. Maybe you could see outside of the car as well? The potential this technology has is ridiculous.

That looks really cool but expensive.

Well that's alot of money but it looks really cool maybe in the future?

That would be so cool if it was affordable. Maybe in the near future?

Dumb_Modz that was the one thing that made me want to get it

Same, seeing that trailer made me get over-excited and now it turns out this will never happen.

-InsanelyAwesome- It is expensive for something that will not be a fully great experience until more than likely the Next Next Gen consoles in like 7 years time. That is just my opinion though it is a good concept just for me to fully love it, it needs tweaking a lot over the next few years ready for the Next Next Gen.
I agree I just think that the technology is not there yet but in the future it will definitely be there. It seems like a weird concept, to expand the screen like that and to immerse you more, they really could have just expanded the 3D capability of this console with all the 3D Tv's out there.

P22 thats way over rated...honestly if you spend that much..you would be spoiled..or flat out rich

hence why it is classified as "Too expensive for home use", while i wouldn't consider getting one it is a really cool concept in my opinion

If I had the money I would totally get it. It's amazing and brilliant.
