GameStop predicts biggest console launch ever

GameStop is predicting the "largest console launch in history" when PS4 and Xbox One go head-to-head this November.

Speaking during the company's quarterly earnings call, CEO Paul Raines said launch allocations for the upcoming consoles were "unprecedented".

Raines didn't reveal any pre-order data for the systems, GameSpot reports, but he did say that 1.5 million consumers have signed up to the PS4 "first to know" information service, compared to 700,000 sign-ups for the Xbox One equivalent.

On Tuesday, when Sony announced a PS4 release date of November 15 in the US and November 29 in Europe, the company said that over one million PS4 pre-orders had been placed worldwide.

The platform holder is anticipating a PS4 sell-out at launch, with PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara claiming the company's struggling to satisfy pre-orders.

PS4 will be available in 32 countries this holiday and Sony has confirmed a PS4 price of £349/€399/$399.

Xbox One will launch in 13 markets this November, down from the originally planned 21. The Xbox One price has been set at £430/€500/$500.

This is somewhat obvious considering the large increase in gamers compared to that during previous console releases, and the ability to easier afford them. I am positive that come the next next-gen console release, the release(s) will be predicted the biggest console launch. The gaming community is still going strong and I doubt that it will fall any time soon.

Frog I can't see how this is news really, of course it is going to be the biggest console launch. Gaming is still to reach it's peak!


It's pretty informative never the less. I find it great to see the gaming industry growing so much

Ofcourse it's going to be big, There are way more people gaming nowadays then back when the 360/PS3 launched.
