Iwata: Wii U's price isn't the problem

4.5
While the Wii U hasn't sold particularly well, with Nintendo moving just 160,000 units across three months in Q1 2013, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata is holding strong that the system's price isn't the problem - the price discrepancy between the two Wii U models is. "If the price is actually an issue [with Wii U], then there is some contradiction between the current sales balance between the Basic and Premium versions of the Wii U," Iwata told CVG.

"The basic version should have sold a lot, but the fact of the matter is that people are buying more of the premium version. So the issue is not there," he said.

Iwata cited the disparity in sales between the Deluxe and Basic Wii U models in January when noting that the system was selling "steadily," and stated plans in June to regain the system's momentum through the end of the year before establishing "successful third-party Wii U software titles." Iwata has been there before, after all; He took a 50 percent pay cut in July 2011 due to poor 3DS sales around the time the system's price dropped, later selling the 3DS XL at a profit.

Of course, whatever version of the Wii U you choose to pick up, there's still the matter of what the heck you're going to play on it. "I understand that the real issue is the lack of software, and the only solution is to provide the mass-market with a number of quality software titles," said Iwata. Great idea!

Then what IS the problem...

Mortar The price is a bit of a problem, but the bigger problem is that the Wii U is just, put simply, a terrible console. They should lower the price of the Wii U to at least sell more units.

They should set it to around $200 at the very most due to the quality of the console, at the moment i can't call the Wii U anything but 'bad'. Lowering the price will atleast have them sell some units due to ignorant parents etc.

Nintendo has by far made some of the best consoles, but I was never a fan of the Wii.

We know, because Nintendo still making things is the problem o_O

Of course it's not the problem it's the console itself it won't be able to keep up with the XBOX and PS.

Only console I really enjoyed from Nintendo was the N64 that was a legendary console to me the WiiU In my opinion is not a bad console as others have said just lack of games and storage space I just would not spend that much cash when I could save to get a different and better console.

Wellll i guess since nintendo is about to fall off FINALLY!!! They need to make their money somehow. This alone shows you how desperate nintendo is on making a quick buck, in a way Microsoft and Playstation don't even give a flip. Surprised xbox360iso hasn't met the same fate as hackyourconsole but who cares CHEEERS to free games and more to come. Its feels good to be a pirate AAAARRRRGGGG!

I don't think that the Wii U is a bad console, Just the lack of games. And the low storage space.

I guess the only upside to their sales is that they are selling more premium models which are more expensive which in turn leads to more revenue. I think they will fix the lack of software in the next year as they are coming back with the classic Wii games we all loved, like Mario Kart and some Donkey Kong game.
