Runescape 3 release date confirmed

4.7
Jagex has announced Runescape 3 will be released on July 22 2013.

The latest entry is a continuation of the current game that allows existing characters and accounts to carry over when it is released. To launch Runescape 3 Jagex is holding a large in-game world event called "The Battle of Lumbridge".

"This will be a world event of epic scale where your decisions and actions will forever shape the story of Gielinor. The future of RuneScape is in your hands," it says on the official Runescape website.

Jagex has also released a list of changes and upgrades that have been made:

Technology

HTML5 game client: The next generation of browser technology. It brings a big step up in visual quality with improved lighting, draw distance and colour, loading into your browser in moments, without the need for plug-ins or Java.
New audio engine: High-fidelity audio and music, featuring full orchestral pieces written by BAFTA Award winner James Hannigan and played by the Slovak Symphony Orchestra.
Seasonal high scores: Compete against your friends and the rest of the RuneScape community to rank on weekly and monthly leaderboards.
Story

Dawn of the Sixth Age: The gods of RuneScape are returning. Entrusted as World Guardians, players have the power to decide which gods will win and lose in their struggles for supremacy.

The Battle of Lumbridge: An epic-scale world event which will shake the foundations of Gielinor, and one which is driven entirely by your actions. Week by week, your choices will shape the flow of battle and the fate of characters, locations and stories, and the ultimate outcome will set the course for RuneScape's future.
Gameplay

New Interface System: Designed for ease of use and massive depth of customisation, the NIS lets you quickly change RuneScape's UI according to your play style at any given moment. It also includes feature upgrades such as key binding and a resizable minimap to put even more choice at your fingertips.

Upgraded camera: Overhauled and updated, a new in-game camera gives you the freedom to view Gielinor like never before.

New community website: Customise your community experience to your specifications, with a new easy-to-navigate website focused on your needs.
Divination: Prepare to unlock divine powers from your surroundings with a new skill for RuneScape 3, arriving a few weeks after launch.

Yeah they don't look too pretty do they..

You need to keep in mind that Runescape is a browser game though. You can't expect epic graphics from that

shadow1 I used to like RS, but about a couple of years ago, It started to turn for the worse. RS used to be that one of a kind game where there was probably no other game that compared to it at all. Once they started throwing in updates that made it similar to other games, it started to become terrible. The whole game now revolves around money and micro transactions. Old school made things ok for a while, but it still wasn't the same. With the eoc, it wasn't RS anymore. With this update, it looks like the old game I used to play died.

the game died years ago. R.I.P. RS 2000-2007

I sort of beg for differ. I still had many fun times after December 2007. The free trade/wild wasn't much of a big deal for me. I wasn't too happy about free trade being taken away, but I understood why they did it and the wild, well I was never the kind of guy who pk'd a lot so I didn't care as much. Of course the GE started to run things into the ground, it wasn't half bad, but RS started showing signs of death with the releases of updates that made it like other games like Bonus XP, Dungeoneering, Loyalty, countless graphical and audio updates, making skills easier, The Squeal of Fortune and Solomon's general store. The death was confirmed when the EoC came out. Old school was ok, but it wasn't the same how the community was divided and how you will need to pay in September and stuck in the same day with no updates. RS3 is their attempt at trying to bring it back to life, but the damage was already done.
