Xbox One Controller will last ten years - Microsoft

4.3
After subjecting the Xbox One controller to rigorous testing, Microsoft claims it will last ten years.

Accessories and hardware manager for Microsoft, Bob Brown, told Pocket-Lint that the aim was to create a controller that would last ten years - the projected lifespan of the Xbox One.
Brown explains that when testing the Xbox One Controller, "each button gets pressed over and over, between 4-5 times a second," while the thumbsticks are also tested with repeated use.

The test determines not only how the controller can withstand vigorous button mashing, but also whether each button delivers the right result, regardless of how many times it has been pressed.

The controllers are also dropped repeatedly in order to determine shock points, and to ensure the inside is not damaged on collision.

The Xbox One controller has been finalised, however Brown says testing is still ongoing. Currently, the controller can handle over 3 million button presses, which Brown claims is over the target.

Oh goodie, another console that will last forever.

The tests are likely inaccurate / biased.

They should focus on the console not the controllers.

The controller is beast the only thing I don't like about the design is that the XYBA buttons just have the letter colored instead of the whole button.

I-DA-KING i hope they fix is so that the joystick won't make people walk forward slowley, Thats the only problem i have with xbox controllers

Well its not really a big problem?

The only real problem that I've had is the thumbstick grips wearing down, but I usually get a new controller every few years anyways.
